Liverpool Transfer News: Robert Lewandowski Targeted Amid Takeover Rumours
Liverpool have reportedly made Robert Lewandowski their "top target" this summer amid speculation they could afford the Pole thanks to a huge takeover from the Middle East.
That's according to an exclusive from Marc Williams of the Daily Star, who noted the Reds will receive a "massive cash injection" should they be taken over. He noted that money could be spent on Lewandowski.
The report follows David Wood's exclusive in the Daily Star that the Reds are being lined up for a bid by an unnamed member of the Abu Dhabi royal family—the same family Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour belongs to.

If the Reds are to sign a player such as Lewandowski they would likely need to part with a phenomenal sum of money, according to DW Sports' Stefan Bienkowski:
Indeed, as Bayern Munich revealed on Twitter after the Pole's latest goalscoring exploits—a brace against Schalke on Saturday—he has been in majestic form throughout the campaign:
Here are some of the 27-year-old's many highlights for club and country this year:
Squawka Football also revealed the dominance he's had over the Bundesliga for quite some time:
Indeed, the only striker to come close to Lewandowski in Germany has been Borussia Dortmund star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Despite Aubameyang's own incredible season Bienkowski still believes the Bayern man has the edge, if only just:
The Reds have never been able to replace the talents of Luis Suarez since he moved to Barcelona, and their two primary attempts to replace him—Mario Balotelli and Christian Benteke—have failed spectacularly.
Aside from Benteke, Liverpool have some useful options in Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi and Danny Ings, but Sturridge is unreliable due to injury, Origi is still just 21 and Ings has not had the chance to prove whether he can cut it at Anfield due to his own unfortunate injury problems.
Lewandowski's power and aerial presence make him a different kind of player to Suarez, but he's similarly prolific and has thrived under Klopp in the past.
Reuniting with Klopp could prove tempting and were Liverpool to be taken over they could afford Lewandowski with their new-found wealth, but if he leaves Bayern he can practically have the pick of any club in Europe as his destination.
Even if the Reds qualify for the UEFA Champions League by winning the UEFA Europa League, there are bigger and better options for him right now.
