Recap
Fabio Borini, Jermain Defoe and Duncan Watmore all scored for Sunderland, who outplayed Norwich for much of the second half and came away with a deserved 3-0 win.
Borini's opener from the penalty spot just before half-time appeared controversial at first, but per MailOnline Sport, official Andre Marriner made the right call awarding a penalty:
Norwich had been the better team until that point, but Defoe and Watmore added to the lead after half-time as Sunderland took control.
The defeat will come as a shock to Norwich, who dominated possession before the break and mustered a handful of good chances. Per OptaJoe, Sunderland finished the day with three shots on target, but all of those resulted in goals.
Andre Wisdom's horror tackle proved the difference before half-time, and while the incident wasn't very clear in real time, replays showed the Liverpool loanee's tackle was rightly punished. The 22-year-old was lucky to still be on the pitch.
Per ESPN FC's Ben Dinnery, Borini didn't doubt the decision to award a penalty one bit:
Sunderland have a match in hand on Norwich. The Canaries still have to play Arsenal, Manchester United, Watford and Everton to end the season.
Sunderland will face Arsenal, Stoke City, Chelsea, Everton and Watford in their last five matches, and with just one point separating them from Norwich, this year's race to avoid the drop looks like it will be a close one.

Sergio Aguero bagged a hat-trick in Manchester City's 3-0 win over Chelsea, who finished the match with 10 players after Thibaut Courtois received a straight red card. As it was the Belgian's second dismissal of the season, he will be banned for two matches and won't be available for the clash with Tottenham Hotspur.
Aston Villa became the first team to be mathematically certain of relegation with a 1-0 loss against Manchester United, as Marcus Rashford scored the only goal of the match during the first half.
Villa put together a dreadful showing, apart from a push for an equaliser in the final minutes, and Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News couldn't help but take a shot after Antonio Valencia's assist for Rashford's goal:
Newcastle put together a far better showing. The Magpies cruised to a 3-0 win over Swansea City thanks to goals from Jamaal Lascelles, Moussa Sissoko and Andros Townsend, moving within three points of Norwich in the standings.
With fixtures against Manchester City, Liverpool, Crystal Palace, Villa and Tottenham Hotspur left on the calendar, Newcastle will have their work cut out for them if they wish to avoid the drop, but with Saturday's win, they've given themselves a chance.

Elsewhere, Everton held Southampton to a 1-1 draw, while Heurelho Gomes twice denied Saido Berahino from the penalty spot to preserve a 1-0 win for Watford over West Bromwich Albion.
