Ernie Els Sets Masters Record with Quintuple Bogey on Hole No. 1
Ernie Els did not get off to the best of starts at the 2016 Masters.
In fact, he got off to about the worst start imaginable.
The 46-year-old Els posted a quintuple bogey on the first hole. You read that right—a quintuple bogey.
Things could have been worse for Els, after it was initially announced he had recorded a sextuple bogey. However, the tournament later announced a change to his score, per Kirk Bohls of the Austin American-Statesman:
Els managed to get to the green fairly quickly, but as Chris of Chicago and Ben of the Boston Globe noted, the veteran golfer's putting game was shaky, to be gentle:

According to ESPN Stats & Info, nobody had ever posted a worse score on hole No. 1, even after the scoring correction:
