The Masters 2016 Leaderboard: Friday Scores, Results and Analysis
Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy will play together for the first time on a weekend at a major when the 2016 Masters resumes on Saturday at Augusta National Golf Club.
McIlroy's one-under 71 was one of just four below-par scores on the course for the day and was enough to move him to second place on the leaderboard at three under through 36 holes.
Reigning Masters champion Spieth came out of the gate strong with two birdies on his first three holes and built his lead to five shots before faltering on the back nine in swirling winds under threat of incurring a penalty for slow play.
Spieth's 74 was his his first-ever round above par at the Masters, but allowed him to maintain first place in the field for the sixth straight round after his wire-to-wire win in 2015.
On Friday, Spieth was challenged for much of the day by the U.S. Amateur champ. Bryson DeChambeau threatened to crash the party and spoil Saturday's dream pairing before a triple bogey on the 18th hole knocked him back into a tie for eighth place at even par.
For just the third time, Phil Mickelson missed the Masters cut after shooting a 79 on Friday, while two-time champ Bubba Watson squeaked into the weekend at six over par.
