Liverpool Consider Playing Home Game Away from Anfield During Main Stand Work
Liverpool could reportedly be set to play a home match away from Anfield early next season, as the club awaits the completion of refurbishment on the main stand.
James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo reported that the match under threat is a UEFA Europa League qualifier, should the Reds be involved, which would take place before the Premier League season gets going.
It’s noted that both Bolton Wanderers’ Macron Stadium and Wigan Athletic’s DW Stadium are being considered as possible venues.

“There is no prospect of Jurgen Klopp’s side playing at Goodison Park, while opening up Anfield with a heavily reduced capacity would be problematic.” added Pearce. “Both Bolton and Wigan would welcome the financial windfall of hosting the Reds.”

It’s suggested in the report that the work being done on the stadium, which will increase the capacity of Anfield to 54,000, will not be completed until late August, and the club have already made a request to the Premier League to play their first two games next term away from home as a result.
Recent footage from a drone gave an indication as to how the building work at Anfield is coming along:
The Reds are in ninth place in the Premier League, although they do have a game in hand on a lot of their positional rivals.
Manchester United currently occupy sixth place in the division and are six points clear of the Merseyside outfit having played a match more.

If West Ham United, who are fifth, or the Red Devils win the FA Cup and finish in the top six in the Premier League, then seventh position will be good enough to see Jurgen Klopp’s side secure a spot in Europe’s second-tier competition.
