Final Four 2016 Schedule: Updated Bracket, Live-Stream Info and More

The building crescendo of March Madness will reach a fever pitch on Saturday with the start of the NCAA tournament Final Four. 

At approximately 6:09 p.m. ET, No. 2 Oklahoma will square off against No. 2 Villanova at NRG Stadium in Houston.

Shortly thereafter (approximately 8:49 p.m. ET), No. 1 North Carolina will take the court against this year's Cinderella team, No. 10 Syracuse.

What to Watch 

Before we dive into a discussion of the teams and matchups the NCAA Final Four games will feature, it's important to talk about one variable that could play heavily into the outcomes for this next phase of March Madness: the venue. 

Wait, what?

For a major sporting event, a good venue should both be noticed and ignored. That is to say, the best venue will have—in addition to a good playing surface for the teams—great acoustics, sightlines, aesthetics and amenities. Guests should feel comfortable. 

Beyond that, however, a venue should fade to the back of players' and fans' minds; it should not be notable for the wrong reasons. The blackout at Super Bowl XLVII comes to mind, for example. 

And that brings us to NRG Stadium, the home of this year's Final Four games. NRG has a history of playing a big role in NCAA action. As Jon Campbell of Odds Shark pointed out, in the last six NCAA tournament games played there, teams shot just 27.7 percent from three-point range and 41.1 percent on two-point attempts. Campbell noted why players may have had difficulties shooting in the venue:

NRG stadium holds 71,000 and is a wide-open space with no walls behind each net and bleachers that don’t reach as high as the backboards. The only thing the players see when they look through the glass backboard is a strange, empty black hole which can provide unusual depth-perception issues.

"

According to Jeff Eisenberg of The Dagger, that fact gives North Carolina an advantage in the tournament:

If outside shooting truly is more difficult at NRG Stadium than other venues, North Carolina will gladly live with a few extra bricks. Of the four teams to qualify for this year's Final Four, the Tar Heels are by far the least reliant on three-point shots.

"

He's right, and he cites this key stat: "Villanova, Syracuse and Oklahoma each attempt more than 40 percent of their shots from behind the arc and rank among this season's 60 most three-point reliant teams."

Assuming the abyss that is NRG Stadium affects the teams the same way, the Tar Heels seem the most primed to adjust their mindset to the situation. 

Consider, on the other hand, Oklahoma, which has been carried through the tournament by the long-range shooting of Buddy Hield and others.

In fact, the last time Oklahoma and Villanova met, in a preview to this weekend's Final Four showdown, the Sooners won 78-55, making 14 from behind the arc.

If the venue throws off their long-range shooting, the Sooners could end up with a much less dominant performance this time around. 

And Syracuse has an edge as an underdog against the Tar Heels, but lacks the kind of well-rounded shooting that would translate well to a venue such as NRG.

The Orange also rely heavily on three-point shooting. They'll need a lot from their jack-of-all-trades, Michael Gbinije, to keep their edge. 

Oh, and by the way, North Carolina won both regular-season meetings against Syracuse. 

Can something as simple as venue really give the Tar Heels enough of an edge to make it to the national final? Given how insane this March has been already, it wouldn't be surprising at all.
