India vs. West Indies: Winners and Losers from World T20 Semi-Final
India were knocked out of their own World Twenty20 after a seven-wicket defeat to the West Indies on Thursday.
Despite notching up a massive total of 192, India could not defend the target, as Mumbai once again proved that it has absolutely no sympathy for bowlers.
Even dismissing Chris Gayle early was not enough to help India.
We’ve picked a few winners and losers from Thursday’s game. Add yours in the comments section.
Loser: Virat Kohli
1 of 6
It took a while for Virat Kohli to click into gear in this tournament, and as soon as he did, things all went awry.
Kohli’s innings was brilliant, hitting an unbeaten 89 off 47, and he was equally impressive in the field. The 27-year-old even got a wicket with the first ball he bowled and was tasked with bowling the final over.
Unfortunately for him, the fairytale was not to be, and India won’t be in the final. Kohli is not a loser because of his performances but because he won't get his chance to shine in the final.
Loser: Chris Gayle

When Chris Gayle is on song, he is unstoppable, but on Thursday, he showed once again that he is still prone to errors more often than he is of brilliance in T20is.
In pockets of dismissals, Gayle is far more likely to get out between nought and nine than any other bracket of 10 runs. He has been dismissed 19 times for totals in that region, and teams know that if they can get under his skin early on, he won’t make an impact.
Winner: West Indies' Chasing
3 of 6
Fortunately for the Windies, Gayle’s early dismissal did not matter. Johnson Charles, Lendl Simmons and Andrew Russell made up for his failures and chased a mammoth 193, showing they have plenty of depth in their power-hitting department.
For a team that were plagued by contract disputes just a few weeks prior to the tournament, the composure and camaraderie they have shown has been exceptional.
Winner: Ashish Nehra
4 of 6
On a track like this and on a day where the batsmen are so dominant, you have to praise a bowler who manages figures like Ashish Nehra did here.
With figures of 4-0-24-1, his economy rate of 6.00 was better than any other bowler on the night. He bowled more dot balls than any other bowler (13), and one just has to wonder what might have happened if he had bowled that final over.
Loser: India’s Bowling Consistency
5 of 6
Despite the fact India's bowlers got hit all the way around the park, far more frustrating was the fact the only two no balls they bowled resulted in wickets.
Ravichandran Ashwin and Hardik Pandya both dismissed man-of-the-match Lendl Simmons, but both bowled no balls and gifted him a free hit as well as a life.
Winner: Lendl Simmons
6 of 6
Lendl Simmons wasn’t even part of the squad that travelled to India for the World T20 tournament, and he had not played cricket since February.
Called up to replace Andre Fletcher after the Afghanistan game, Simmons’ match-winning innings, an unbeaten 82 off 51, has given the Windies some real momentum heading into the final against England over the weekend.
Playing most of his Indian Premier League cricket in Mumbai might have helped just a little bit.
