Notre Dame Pro Day 2016: Recap, Results for Jaylon Smith, Will Fuller and More
Headlined by linebacker Jaylon Smith and wide receiver Will Fuller, 17 players participated in Notre Dame's pro day on Thursday.
The event featured typical workouts like the bench press, vertical leap and—everyone's favorite for overreactions—the 40-yard dash.
Nearly every NFL franchise attended pro day, which included a couple former members of the Irish roster, such as Everett Golson, as well as the standouts from the 2015 team.
Without a doubt, Smith was the focal point.
The first-team AP All-American, who is recovering from a disturbing knee injury, pumped out 24 reps on the bench press. That would've ranked third-best among linebackers in the combine.
Smith didn't participate in other drills, but the linebacker said he's leg-pressing 600 pounds and squatting more than 400, according to Paul Skrbina of the Chicago Tribune.
Depending on Smith's medical checks, he could remain a first-round pick. Otherwise, Ronnie Stanley will likely be the first Irish player off the board.
Yahoo Sports' Eric Edholm reported the Tennessee Titans appeared most interested in Stanley and fellow offensive lineman Nick Martin before departing. Detroit Lions offensive line coach Rob Prince personally worked with the duo.
NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock called Stanley a top-10 pick and Martin someone who will play 10 years. Fuller could do the same.
Every scout knows Fuller has elite vertical speed, but it's imperative the 6'0", 186-pound receiver avoids being labeled a younger version of Ted Ginn Jr. or Darrius Heyward-Bey and offers a diverse route tree.
The speedster tallied 62 receptions for 1,258 yards and 14 touchdowns last season. He registered 17 catches of 25-plus yards, which ranked seventh in the nation.
Although Fuller is considered a fringe first-round prospect, that means he's safely an early second-round option. KeiVarae Russell may join his teammate on Day 2. A 5'11", 192-pound cornerback, Russell reinforced the notion he's worthy of a considerably high selection.
Russell assembled one of the more impressive days from the players who participated in a majority of the workouts. Fuller, Martin, Sheldon Day and Romeo Okwara stood on their combine numbers.

One of the particularly notable faces at Notre Dame was Golson, who transferred to Florida State last summer. He returned to South Bend for pro day because the Irish had more wide receivers participating than FSU, per ESPN's Matt Fortuna.
Golson, when asked if he views himself as an NFL quarterback, replied, "For sure. For sure. No doubt in my mind," according to Mike Vorel of the South Bend Tribune.
Andrew Owens of Rivals noted Golson said he does not want to attempt any other position. Consequently, he's facing a tough uphill battle to get picked. Bleacher Report's Matt Miller did not give Golson a "draftable" rating.
But that's certainly not the case for a handful of Notre Dame prospects. Fuller finished in time to bolt for an evening meeting with the Cleveland Browns.

Ah, the life of an NFL prospect.
