Overview
The last time New Zealand and England met in a T20, England won by an impressive 56 runs, with the Black Caps slumping to 135 in pursuit of 192 runs. Things are a bit different in this clash, though. New Zealand have been the most impressive team at the World T20, while England have not exactly been convincing, particularly in the bowling department.
The Black Caps are the only team who remain unbeaten in the tournament, and their maverick approach to team selection is something that has set them aside from other teams. New Zealand have not been afraid to make bold picks when conditions dictated that certain players will benefit from what is on offer.
England will have a tough time beating a team with all the momentum behind them, but they have one small advantage: They have played a number of their group games at the very venue that is hosting the semi-final.
The Delhi wicket has dished up a mixed bag in the tournament so far and has showed a slight slant in favour of the batsmen.
Barring New Zealand's fixture against Pakistan, they have not really been racking up the mammoth totals, and just one batsman, Martin Guptill, has scored over 100 runs. In contrast, three of England's players—Joe Root, Jos Buttler and Jason Roy—have pushed their total number of runs over the 100 mark.
The bowlers will have a tough time, but there’s no better opportunity for New Zealand to prove just how versatile they are.
Key players
New Zealand
Mitchell Santner has been one of New Zealand's most consistent bowlers. He's taken nine wickets at an average of 9.55 and an economy rate of 5.73. Spinners are so valuable in this format, and having one who has performed so well throughout the tournament will be a big asset for New Zealand.
England
Joe Root is England's best batsman by far, and they will need him to continue his good form in order to help set the foundation for a good total.
