Arsenal Transfer News: Domingos Quina Deal Close, Zlatan Ibrahimovic on Rumours

Christopher SimpsonMar 27, 2016

Arsenal are set to sign former Chelsea starlet Domingos Quina "in the next 48 hours," it was reported on Monday.

Per John Cross of the Mirror, the 16-year-old had been playing in the Blues' youth setup but has left the club due to the lack of opportunities to progress into a first-team player, and the Gunners "have made an offer to sign him."

BBC Sport's Simon Stone reported the news on Sunday evening, which could make his capture imminent:

According to Cross, the No. 10 was snapped up from Benfica as a 13-year-old and "was seen as one of the club’s best young talents," as well as one of the best young prospects for his native Portugal.

He has scored seven goals in eight appearances for the Selecao's under-17 team, including this brace against Armenia in September last year, per Chelsea Youth:

It is of little surprise Quina might be frustrated at Chelsea, as the club is not known for bringing through young talent.

The Blues had 33 players out on loan at the close of the last summer transfer window, the majority of whom are youngsters, and the club has let the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku go without giving them a significant opportunity to prove themselves at Stamford Bridge.

Stone believes Quina's decision hammers that point home:

While he will likely still be at least a year or two away from earning a first-team opportunity at Arsenal, the Gunners have a much better track record of bringing through their younger players, so it could well prove a wise decision from the midfielder.

In other news, Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has acknowledged there is interest from him in the Premier League.

According to the Mirror's Cross, the striker, who has been "offered to Arsenal," said: "Yes, there is interest from the Premier League, I can confirm that. The Premier League is the league in the world all people and fans speak about."

Sports journalist Jonas Giaever noted the effect his comments will have on the speculation over his future:

Ibrahimovic further reiterated his stance that he will be leaving PSG at the end of his contract this summer, but he won't be making a decision on his next destination until then.

The striker said: "To make it very clear, there are no negotiations at all with PSG, I'm not going to represent them the coming season. I had four amazing years with them. A lot of things have to feel fine when I'm going to take a decision this summer."

He told BT Sport Football as much earlier in March:

The Swede is now 34, but after racking up 35 goals and 16 assists this season, it's clear he can still compete at a high level.

Arsenal would benefit from his clinical finishing as well as his cocksure attitude and winning mentality. He not only has the drive to succeed, but the belief he can do soa belief the Gunners seemingly lack when it comes to the Premier League title and the UEFA Champions League.

After the season—and career—he's had, Ibrahimovic will more or less be able to choose his next destination when he leaves Les Parisiens. The Gunners should go all out to tempt him to the Emirates Stadium or he could punish them while playing for a rival next year.
