Weather: No problems with the weather, according to AccuWeather.com. This will heat up to around 33 degree Celsius during the day, and temperatures won't dip below 19 degrees during the evening. Dew is not much of a factor here, though, as Sri Lanka will have seen when they played England at this venue on Saturday.

Overview

South Africa have been booted out of the World Twenty20 before they have even played their final fixture.  Sri Lanka are also out of the tournament, which means the fixture between the two sides is little more than some moderate consolation.

But while the context to this clash might be severely lacking, it could prove to be quite exciting, since both teams have a lot to prove to their fans and critics.

Sri Lanka probably have the psychological edge in this fixture. They might have lost to England, but they played one of their best games of the tournament. South Africa, on the other hand, have won just one match, and even that was unconvincing.

The Proteas will have to show that they are not quite as unimaginative as they have appeared to be in this tournament and have a few problems to address.

There are questions over the batting order, like whether AB de Villiers should have walked in at five when they were in such a tight pickle against the West Indies. This happened despite the fact that when the tournament started, De Villiers was being touted as an opening option. It seems a rather befuddled mess after South Africa seemed so open to using De Villiers as a floating batsman in the first fixture.

Whatever they do with the batting order, they will have to do so without JP Duminy, who was ruled out of the tournament with a hamstring strain.

Then there is the question of how Faf du Plessis has managed his bowlers—on just one occasion as the spinner (or spinners) bowled in the PowerPlay. This contradicts the modern-day trend in T20 cricket that has proved to be effective time and time again.

For South Africa, there is a lot at stake, even if their time in the tournament has come to an end.

Sri Lanka, meanwhile, will want to show that they have indeed turned a corner and their performance against England wasn’t a fluke. Against a flagging South African side, the opportunity is being presented on a silver platter.

Key players

South Africa

South Africa need a good start up front in order to set a good total, and Quinton de Kock will be integral to making that happen. He has been South Africa’s most consistent batsman at this tournament, but they now need him to go on and get a big score.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka's batting has been a sticking point for them for some time now, but Tillakaratne Dilshan is one player who has managed some consistency. He's hit just one big score in this tournament (an unbeaten 83 against Afghanistan) so he now needs to perform against one of the big teams.

Squads

South Africa

Faf du Plessis (captain), Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock, Jean-Paul Duminy, David Miller, Aaron Phangiso, Rilee Rossouw, David Wiese, Kyle Abbott, Farhaan Behardien, AB de Villiers, Imran Tahir, Chris Morris, Kagiso Rabada, Dale Steyn
