West Ham vs. Manchester United: 2016 FA Cup Replay Date, Time Announced

Manchester United's FA Cup quarter-final replay with West Ham United has been scheduled for Wednesday, April 13.

That's according to Sky Sports, which noted the match will kick off at 7 p.m. BST with the pair needing the replay after drawing 1-1 at Old Trafford. The highlight of the first encounter was undoubtedly Dimitri Payet's stunning free-kick to open the scoring, per BT Sport Football:

As the match will clash with the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, the FA could face a fine from UEFA, which stipulates domestic games must be finished at least half an hour before European games kick off.

Per Sky Sports, the FA said in a statement: "Extensive discussions have taken place with all associated parties regarding the scheduling of this fixture, with limited options available. The FA recognises the agreed date may not be an ideal solution for all but believed it was the most appropriate available within the congested football calendar."

Indeed, the association has few alternatives in order to ensure the match is played sufficiently before the winner plays against Everton in the semi-final on Saturday, April 23.

The international break prevents the game from being played in the remainder of March, while there are midweek Premier League fixtures immediately ahead of the semi-finals—in which both teams are involved.

That leaves only the two weeks at the start of April, with Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of both weeks occupied by the first and second legs of the Champions League and UEFA Europa League quarter-finals.

To avoid clashing with them, the game would therefore have to be played on a Monday or Friday with games taking place over the prior or following weekend, which is equally impractical.

UEFA's desire to preserve the spectacle of its prestigious tournaments is understandable, but in the fixture-packed final months of the season practicality will occasionally dictate there be a clash.

For the Hammers, the match will take place between a Saturday home match with Arsenal and a Sunday trip to Leicester City, while United face Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane the Sunday prior and Aston Villa at home the following Saturday.
