ICC World T20 2016 Results: Sunday's Super 10 Scores, Updated Tables, Schedule
South Africa withstood a brave batting effort from associate nation Afghanistan on Sunday at the 2016 ICC World Twenty20 to win by 37 runs in Mumbai.
A superb knock of 64 from 29 balls from AB de Villiers helped the Proteas to a massive total of 209 for five from their 20 overs. It was a score Afghanistan went after early on, with Mohammad Shahzad smashing 44 from just 19 deliveries. But they were unable to get over the line and were bowled out for 172 off the final ball of their innings.
Later in the day, West Indies squared off with Sri Lanka in Bangalore and romped to victory despite Chris Gayle not getting to the crease thanks to Andre Fletcher's incredible unbeaten knock of 84.

Sri Lanka vs. West Indies

The West Indies opted to field first against Sri Lanka and limited them to just 122 runs thanks to an excellent performance with ball in hand.
All eleven Sri Lankan batsmen got on the field—albeit the final two faced one ball between them—and just four got into double figures.
Opening pair Dinesh Chandimal and Tillakaratne Dilshan accrued 16 and 12, respectively, while replacements Lahiru Thirimanne and Chamara Kapugedera managed just five and six thanks to some outstanding bowling from Samuel Badree.
The spinner then took Milinda Siriwardana for a duck after just three balls. ESPNcricinfo and FirstpostSports hailed his incredible impact:
Indeed, in the four overs he bowled, the Lions managed just 12 runs—an outstanding economy of 3.00.
Commentator Ayaz Memon is noticing a pattern with batsmen struggling against spin:
The bulk of the Lions' runs came from Perera as he knocked 40 from just 29 balls, bagging five fours and a six along the way. ESPNcricinfo shared his stats and Badree's:
After restricting Sri Lanka to 122, the West Indies had an achievable total to chase down, and they did so with ease thanks to Fletcher's outstanding performance.
The 28-year-old opened the batting at the top of the order and started as he meant to continue, edging a four at deep mid-wicket off the first ball and hitting a six off the fourth.

Fletcher had his half-century by the 12th over, with West Indies legend Brian Lara and stat man Mohandas Menon hailing his performance:
Indeed, he knocked six fours and five sixes by the end before Andre Russell finished off the match in style with 20 from eight balls, claiming the win with a six of his own.
The West Indies have won both of their Super 10 matches thus far and look like one of the teams to beat in the tournament—a reputation enhanced by their success here without Gayle, which shows their strength in depth.
Sri Lanka are still in a good position, but beating South Africa and England will be a tough task.
South Africa vs. Afghanistan
South Africa, 209 for five (De Villiers 64, Amir Hamza one for 25) beat Afghanistan, 172 (Shahzad 44, Chris Morris for for 27) by 37 runs.

Having opted to bat after winning the toss, South Africa would have been seeking a similarly quick start to their match with England, when Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock hammered the ball to all parts.
The former of that duo fell for just five, although the arrival of skipper Faf du Plessis saw the Proteas pick up the pace. The partnership of Du Plessis and De Kock punished poor deliveries from the Afghanistan bowlers, racing along at a run rate just shy of 10 per over.

The captain played a fine knock too, striking the ball wonderfully during his 27 balls at the crease, making 41 in the process. He fell in the 10th over, with South Africa well-placed on 90 for two.
De Kock played with his patented aggression, although he’ll have been disappointed to have fallen for 45 from 31 balls. As noted by cricket statistician Bharath Seervi, he’s a player who regularly departs just short a landmark score:
It was a dismissal that freed up De Villiers, though, which was bad news for the Afghan bowlers. For much of his time at the crease, the batsman played a calm and classy style. However, there was one over in particular when he took Rashid Khan to the cleaners.
The bet365 Twitter feed broke down what were a remarkable six balls from the South Africa talisman:
When he did fall in the 18th over for 64, De Villiers had taken his team to 173 for four. JP Duminy’s 29 not out helped keep things ticking over in the latter stages, while a late blast from David Miller—who scored 19 off eight balls—gave Afghanistan a mountain to climb.

Perhaps after watching England successfully knock off 230 against South Africa earlier in the tournament, Afghanistan approached this one with confidence. And once again, Shahzad shone at the top of the order.
His brutal hitting saw Afghanistan off to their best five-over start against a member nation in a T20 match, totting up 65 runs. Shahzad hammered 44 of them in 19 balls. As noted by the Daily Mail’s Lawrence Booth, they were runs that came almost exclusively in boundaries:
After he departed in the fourth over, the chances looked even slimmer for Afghanistan, who admirably battled on. Gulbadin Naib—26 from 18—and Samiullah Shenwari—25 from 14—both impressed, as they tried to keep the run rate up.

But with a lot of risks being taken at the crease, the South Africa bowlers got stuck in. Chris Morris took an impressive four for 27 with the ball. Afghanistan were bowled out for 172, losing their last wicket off the last ball of their 20 overs.
