Friday Recap
After an excellent 67 on Thursday, Pilkadaris really kicked on during Day 2, making a flying start with back-to-back birdies at one and two.
Further gains at the sixth, eighth and ninth saw him move further up the leaderboard, and he reached the turn in just 31.
Birdies at 10 and 11 made it four shots gained in four holes, and back-to-back birdies again at 14 and 15 moved him to 14 under par, per the European Tour:
Frustratingly for Pilkadaris, he bogeyed the par-five last to drop back one shot, but his low-scoring round has made him the firm favourite heading into the weekend.
He said after his round that he was pleased to have taken advantage of the chances he created, per the European Tour: "I kept giving myself chances, and it was nice to take advantage of them. You've got to roll with it and don't try to step out of the way and trip on your own feet. Just keep it simple. You've got to keep it straight. If you are on the fairway, then you can give yourself chances. That's what you need to do out here."
Home favourite Chawrasia's second consecutive 67 came via a round that included six birdies and just a single bogey at the fourth.
He opened with a birdie and made further gains at five and eight.
His next birdie at 11 was mightily impressive, as he channelled the great Seve Ballesteros to get up and down from the trees, having hooked his drive, per the European Tour:
Another up-and-down from the trees at the par-five 14th returned another birdie, and a three at 16 saw him finish his round at 10 under.
Chawrasia joined Elvira at the mark, the Spaniard having carded a 68 after birdies at one, seven, eight, 12 and 13, and a bogey at 11.
The two-under cut line saw off three-time major champion Padraig Harrington and 2010 Ryder Cup winner Edoardo Molinari, but the stage is set for a fascinating weekend as the field try to catch Pilkadaris.
