Buckhorn High School Basketball Player Rocks Head-Turning Mullet in HS Playoffs
What do Dennis Rodman, Anderson Varejao, Iman Shumpert and Chris Andersen have in common?
Head-turning hair.
Based on his fabulous follicles alone, Buckhorn High School's Shannon Blank may soon be taking his place among them.
Only a special kind of man can pull off the mullet with pride, and the Wildcat's crazy coif is almost as dynamic as his two-way playing abilities.
With his eye-catching locks and moves, opponents, too, were compelled to take note.
Most recently, Buckhorn's Sweet 16 adversaries, the Murray Tigers, channeled their inner business-and-party-blend by sporting mullets of their own, according to Drew Franklin of Kentucky Sports Radio.
And although imitation has been considered the highest form of flattery, likely no one has been more supportive than head coach John Noble.
According to Ben Roberts of the Lexington Herald-Leader, Noble said the mullet was the humorous brainchild of former player Peyton Cooper. Blank has since committed to the look, carrying a confident swagger along with it that has transferred to the entire unit. Noble said:
"I think the mullet has kind of come to represent what we’re about as a team. I think it’s made them tougher. If you’re going to wear a mullet in 2016, you better be prepared for what’s going to come with it.
That has included taunts from opposing student sections. Buckhorn’s players laugh it off. I don’t know if people realize it or not, but we’re in on the joke.
"
Unfortunately for the Wildcats, that toughness wasn't enough to surmount their opponents. As reported by Mike Stunson of the Paducah Sun, Buckhorn fell to Murray 62-35.
Despite the loss, the junior need not hang his head (or his hair).
The NBA always needs someone to pass the terrific-tress torch to.
