Recap
Before the start of the last day of judging, the 2016 Flyball championship came to an end, as the lightning-fast Extremely Salty team came from behind to emerge victorious in the final.
The Kennel Club shared video of the final:
West Midlands Police were among those to pay a visit to the event during its final day. The team gave several displays, but the younger members who are still in training stole the show, per their official Twitter account:
Crufts is all about judging, however, and the Terrier and Hound groups trotted out first before the seven finalists competed for Best in Show.
CH Burneze Geordie Girl emerged victorious in the Terrier group, the first group win for the young West Highlands White Terrier. Per WestieInfo.com, Burneze Geordie Girl has only just made her group debut after winning plenty of awards as a puppy.
The Kennel Club shared footage of the four dogs selected from the Terrier group:
Earlier in the day, 12-year-old English Toy Terrier Lucy shocked everyone in attendance by winning Best in Breed, and a visibly emotional owner, Terry Burgess, couldn't fight back his tears. Per Ross Lawson of the Liverpool Echo, he said:
"I’m very emotional. I wasn’t expecting to win, and to do so at the 125th Crufts is extremely special.
I have a habit of breaking down in tears when I win, and I did exactly that so I didn’t let anyone down. I really am honoured to have won.
Lucy is such a lovely dog and I’m so proud of her.
"
In the Hounds group, victory went to whippet CH Nothing Compares to You at Crosscop, another youngster who has already turned heads in competition. The whippet just beat out wire-haired dachshund CH Silvae Solo, who was expected to win the group and was a strong contender for Best in Show as well.
The final was always going to be tightly contested, and it was Burnese Geordie Girl—who never moved an inch unless instructed to—who took top honours. Radio presenter Tony Shepherd was already planning the rest of her career:
Per Crufts' official Twitter account, it marks only the third time in the event's 125-year history a West Highland White Terrier took Best in Show honours.
Geordie Girl took part in a multitude of puppy contests in 2015, per Burneze's official website, so in all likelihood, dog lovers can expect to see plenty more of her on the bigger stages after her Crufts win.
