Barcelona vs. Getafe: Winners and Losers from La Liga

Karl MatchettMar 12, 2016

Barcelona moved 11 points clear at the top of La Liga on Saturday as they swept aside Getafe with minimum fuss, eventually winning 6-0.

A fast start saw Juan Rodriguez divert a cross into his own net, before Lionel Messi missed yet another penalty for Barcelona.

It didn't matter much, as Neymar and Munir were both assisted by the Argentinian, before he also scored one himself for the fourth before the break.

Neymar again and then an overhead kick from Arda Turan wrapped up the scoring before Barcelona took their foot off the gas.

Here are all our winners and losers from the Camp Nou.

Winner: Lionel Messi

1 of 5

It's easy to pick goalscorers, and Messi also missed a penalty, but that just scratches the surface of this display from the No. 10.

Messi was simply outrageous with his manipulation of the ball at times, consistently delivering dangerous balls into the box from the left channel and finding room behind the defence to get shots away himself.

Barcelona's biggest star claimed three assists, for Munir, Neymar and Neymar again, as well as netting one himself.

Loser: Emiliano Velazquez

2 of 5

It's harsh to pick out a single defender from Getafe as being poor when as a team they conceded six, but the truth is Emiliano Velazquez was partly culpable for several of the goals and looked well out of his depth.

Neymar continually managed to run in behind him, there were lunging tackles that never came close to meeting their mark and his passing was errant at times, which only increased the pressure on Getafe's back line.

This is his second season on loan at Getafe, and he doesn't look close to being on the level to break into Atletico Madrid's team for next season.

Winner: Neymar

3 of 5

Messi might just have been the most effective in the final third, but Neymar wasn't far behind him.

The Brazilian forward was unstoppable at times, by fair means at least, drawing no end of fouls at the end of his slaloming dribbles and incisive runs behind the opposition defence.

Two cool finishes upped his goal tally at the end of a mini drought in La Liga, but while his finishing was good, it was the clever movement in the first place that got him in an excellent position to take advantage.

Neymar was aggressive in his play, positive in his use of the ball and simply far too good overall for Getafe to try and stop.

Loser: Fran Escriba

4 of 5

Getafe boss Fran Escriba might not have been expecting to win this game anyway, but he certainly would have hoped to take more than a single point out of the last 27 available.

Seven defeats in eight prior to this game meant Getafe were already demoralised, low on confidence and not looking like a side playing for each other or in a cohesive manner...and conceding six in less than an hour against Barcelona didn't stem that downward spiral.

In truth, the manager could easily have been looking at double figures against his side on the day.

Winner: Sergi Roberto

5 of 5

Aleix Vidal, Munir and Andres Iniesta all deserve plaudits, too, but Sergi Roberto was fantastic throughout and gets our last nod of appreciation.

He started at the base of midfield and adequately protected the defence in the opening spell of the game. But he quickly realised he'd have nothing to do in a pure holding role and instead took the element of surprise to surge forward unmarked on several occasions.

His passing and running the channels was good, he was involved in the buildup to several goals and once again proved his importance in the squad in a number of roles.
