Real Madrid Transfer News: Latest Toni Kroos and Isco Exit Rumours

James DudkoMar 5, 2016

Real Madrid could lose two midfield playmakers this summer, as both Toni Kroos and Isco have been linked with two of Europe's biggest clubs, according to the latest reports. Germany international Kroos is a target for Premier League side Manchester United, while Serie A giants Juventus want Isco.

United are willing to pay as much as £40 million for Kroos, according to Jeremy Cross of the Daily Star:

"

A source said: 'United want him and he's one of their main targets when the transfer window opens.'

'Real are reluctant to do business with United, but with Kroos the situation is different because he hasn't settled and could be surplus to requirements.'

Cross also revealed how the Red Devils "tried to sign" Kroos back in 2014 when he was still at Bundesliga club Bayern Munich. Cross has suggested Madrid may try to use Kroos as an incentive in a renewed bid to sign United goalkeeper David De Gea, something the Red Devils are likely to resist.

The report also described how Kroos has even sounded out one particular member of the United squad about England's top flight: "It is understood Kroos has already spoken to German team-mate and United star Bastian Schweinsteiger about life at Old Trafford."

Kroos has struggled for Los Blancos this season, managing just one goal in all competitions, per ESPN FC. But the 26-year-old certainly fits as a target for a United side that has lacked initiative in midfield too often this season.

At his best, he can influence any game by controlling possession and operating between the lines. On top form, Kroos is also a major goal threat thanks to a powerful and accurate shot.

Kroos has struggled to get his career with Madrid on track.

He would fit either as an advanced playmaker supporting United's forwards or as a natural link at the heart of a midfield three.

But United may feel their current options are strong enough without investing heavily in Kroos. Recently, holding player Morgan Schneiderlin, Ander Herrera and attacking midfielder Juan Mata have formed a very effective trio.

But with Schweinsteiger struggling for form and fitness during his debut campaign in England's top flight, and Michael Carrick expected to leave, per Mike McGrath of the Sun, another option would be welcome.

It's a surprise things haven't worked out for Kroos in the Spanish capital. But Luka Modric remains the playmaker of choice, Casemiro can shield the defence and James Rodriguez offers goals.

That's one quality Isco is supposed to posses. But the 23-year-old has found the net just twice in Spain's top flight, according to WhoScored.com.

Despite nine assists, Isco's creative output has also been questioned by manager Zinedine Zidane, according to Manu Sainz of Spanish source AS: "If you look at his final pass, you'll see that it's an area that he needs to look at and he knows that himself."

Now, one of Zidane's old clubs is interested in the one-time Malaga star. Juventus are ready to bid for the schemer Madrid will reportedly make available for between €35-40 million, per Italian publication Tuttosport (h/t Football-Italia.net).

If Madrid can fetch anything close to those figures, they should let Isco go. He's a player who needs to be the focal point of a team's play in the final third. It's an opportunity he doesn't look like getting with Los Merengues.

Madrid have the chance to generate an enormous transfer kitty just by parting ways with a pair of players they have little room for at the moment. But these aren't decisions the club should take lightly given Isco and Kroos' obvious talent.
