South Carolina, Under Armour Agree to New Contract: Latest Details, Reaction
The South Carolina Gamecocks and Under Armour agreed to a 10-year contract that will continue to outfit the school's athletic programs in UA apparel through 2026, the school announced Friday.
"The University of South Carolina has been one of our landmark partnerships within the NCAA and SEC," Under Armour vice president of sports and marketing partnerships Ryan Kuehl said. "The Gamecocks are a key part of our brand story, and we look forward to continuing that story together as we provide world-class, innovative product to their student athletes and the entire Gamecock community."
South Carolina and Under Armour first joined forces in 2007, and the company's presence in college football has grown since then.
Under Armour now serves as the official apparel company of programs such as Notre Dame, Maryland, Wisconsin, Navy, Texas Tech and Auburn.
However, fans will dissect how South Carolina's talented players perform in their Under Armour threads next season.
The football team made a big change when it hired former Florida head coach and Auburn defensive coordinator Will Muschamp to a five-year, $16 million deal to try to help revitalize the program.
Following a 3-9 season that included a 1-7 record in SEC play, the Gamecocks are in desperate need of some stability with Muschamp in the fold. And while wins may not flow in at a high clip from the outset, Muschamp has a track record of success.
After leading Florida to a 7-6 record and a bowl win during the 2011 season, he helped the Gators post a mark of 11-2, which resulted in a Sugar Bowl appearance, in 2012.
That run of success gives Muschamp a template to work with, but the task before him is daunting nonetheless.
