Snooker Shoot-Out 2016: Updated Scores, Draw and Schedule After Friday's Results

Gianni VerschuerenFeb 12, 2016

David Gilbert stole the show during the first day of the 2016 Snooker Shoot-Out, becoming the second player in tournament history to make a total clearance. Friday's action was filled with high-class breaks and a handful of upsets, as Graeme Dott and Ken Doherty were forced to pack their bags after the first round.

World champion Stuart Bingham survived a nailbiter against Ricky Walden, and Allister Carter comfortably beat Liam Highfield.

The Shoot-Out remains one of the most unusual and exciting tournaments on the snooker calendar as players go head-to-head in a single frame lasting just 10 minutes. They also have to deal with a shot clock, giving them just 15 seconds between shots during the first five minutes and 10 from that point forward.

Recap

An unlikely player stole the show on Friday, as Gilbert made Shoot-Out history against Mark Joyce, clearing the table to finish with a score of 127.

Joyce was forced to sit and watch as Gilbert made shot after shot, showing remarkable control of his cue ball and incredible composure. He even took the time to pick the chalk off the floor in between shots, despite the running clock, and sent the fans into a frenzy when he potted the colours. World Snooker shared the end of the frame:

Incredibly enough, Jimmy Robertson came agonisingly close to repeating the feat in the next frame, only to lose his focus on the last red and fall just short of a century.

All eyes were on Bingham, who has struggled since winning his first world title and came into the tournament with some question marks. He seemed to be looking forward to the change of pace before the match, however:

Bingham had to deal with a tough draw, taking on Walden in the first round, and his match went down to the wire. Walden held the lead throughout the early stages but missed a key red off the cushion, allowing Bingham to claim the lead.

Walden had a late chance but rushed a red off the rest, and Bingham walked away with the win and a ticket to the second round.

Former world champion Dott had to pack his bags after the first round, losing 70-30 against England's Ben Woollaston. The 28-year-old, who made the final of the Welsh Open last year, caught a handful of lucky breaks at the right time, including this fluke:

Dott wasn't the only former world champion to fall at the first hurdle, as Tom Ford edged Doherty.

Defending champion Michael White got things started with a one-sided win over Mark King, showing the form that carried him to the title in 2015. Lightning was built for this kind of game, as he sees shots quicker than most and always leaves options open.

He's again the favourite to win this year's title but will have to get past a strong field. The likes of Judd Trump and Barry Hawkins will be in action on Saturday.
