Isaiah Wilson to Georgia: Bulldogs Land 4-Star OT Prospect

Adam WellsDec 16, 2016

An elite offensive tackle can build the foundation for a college football team to win a national championship, so Georgia certainly feels great after landing Isaiah Wilson.

Kipp Adams of Dawgs247 first reported Wilson's commitment to the Bulldogs. The tackle talked about the connection he made with offensive line coach Sam Pittman:

"

He wants me to come join what the Bulldogs are trying to do over the next couple of years. He is so good, but he is a very real coach. He is not going to lie—he is going to keep it 100 hundred and be straight-forward with me. His track record also speaks for itself—all of the All-Americans he has had and guys he has put in the league—that speaks for itself. He basically just sold me on Georgia and wanting me to come down there.

Wilson has been one of the most sought-after players in the 2017 recruiting class, with Alabama, Clemson, Florida, LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, North Carolina, Ohio State and Oregon among his top options to choose from before selecting Georgia.

Given the value of a dominant offensive lineman, especially one with Wilson's resume, it's not hard to see why he would be in demand. Scout.com rankings have the New York native listed as the best offensive tackle in his state, the ninth-ranked offensive tackle, a 4-star prospect and the No. 49 overall player.

While a lot of players coming directly out of high school have physical maturing to do, Wilson is a rare player who will arrive on campus fully formed. He's 6'6.5" and 354 pounds already, so high school defensive linemen will be happy to see him leave.

According to Wilson's scouting report from ESPN's Recruiting Nation, he's got rare size and the agility to excel at the collegiate level: "Massive prospect with excellent length and a solid build. Possesses good feet, moves very well for his size and flashes the ability to get to the second level. Powerful at the point of attack and dominates opponents in the run game. Has a nasty finishing attitude."

The one knock on Wilson is he's already massive, so what will happen to him as he continues to grow between the ages of 19 and 21?

That said, recruiting is all about potential, being able to dream big on a young athlete who shows a desire to work hard on the field and in the classroom. Wilson has all the upside in the world, giving his new team a foundational piece to build around.

Wilson is physically ready to play as soon as he steps on campus, though the speed and power of the game will put him on a similar plane as everyone else he's playing against for probably the first time in his life.

He'll probably be given an opportunity to compete for a starting job as a freshman. The Bulldogs are projected to have an opening at right tackle with no clear leader to fill the void. But even if he doesn't win a job right away, the signing is still about long-term potential.

Yet given the freakish physical attributes Wilson possesses and his stellar scouting reports, he won't need a lot of time before becoming one of the most impressive recruits in his class.
