Jurgen Klopp, Arsene Wenger Comment on Liverpool's 3-3 Draw with Arsenal

Gianni VerschuerenJan 13, 2016

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger revealed he told his Liverpool counterpart, Jurgen Klopp, to "calm down" during the 3-3 draw on Wednesday, as he feared the German would get sent to the stands. Meanwhile, Klopp reserved special praise for Roberto Firmino, who enjoyed a breakout performance at Anfield.

Wenger told reporters about the conversation he had with Klopp during the match while speaking during his post-match press conference, per Henry Winter of the Daily Telegraph:

Both managers went through a roller coaster of emotions during the Premier League clash, as Liverpool twice took the lead through Firmino. Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud managed to pull Arsenal level, and the latter put the visitors ahead early in the second half.

The weather took a turn for the worse, and the match seemed destined to finish 3-2 until Joe Allen found a late equaliser after strong work from Christian Benteke. The goal came as a result of typical power football, and that did not sit well with Wenger, per the Premier League's official Twitter account:

While Allen was the hero for the hosts with the late goal, Firmino will―and should―steal the headlines with his fantastic performance. The second goal in particular will be replayed for the rest of the season, and Firmino's all-round performance was worthy of special praise.

Klopp certainly thought so, per the club's official Twitter account:

The match was a fantastic affair for neutral fans, and both managers realised it. Per Kristian Walsh of the Liverpool Echo, Wenger thought both sides left everything on the pitch:

Klopp thought the start of the match came close to football perfection, per the team:

He also gladly admitted his team got a little lucky, although he believed the draw was fully deserved:

The Reds' official Twitter account was kind enough to share this short clip of Klopp's interview:

Per Oliver Kay of the Times, Wenger was remarkably upbeat in his post-match press conference, although it was clear to see he felt a tang of disappointment at the last-minute equaliser.

He tried to explain why he and his players felt frustrated:

Arsenal certainly had their chances to grab the win on Wednesday, but overall, the 3-3 final score was a fair representation of what took place on the pitch. Both teams played attacking football for the full 90 minutes and kept the crowd entertained despite the poor weather.

It's a shame both teams walk away from this match with only a point, as it almost feels like an unjust reward for the show they gave the fans. Both sides should take plenty of momentum with them from this encounter.
