Is It Just Me, Or Is This Kiffin/Meyer Thing Really Gettin Fun?
Just when you figured the fun was over. Just when you figured we were settling in to the dull routine of your typical age-old SEC rivalry. Just when you you thought Kiffin was out of the pulling hair and name-calling news for a while. Here he goes again!
I really thought Kiffin had learned his lesson. But, then again, I actually thought Meyer had more class than this, but no. I was wrong on both counts. The girls are at it again. First it was the flu, then it was the "playing to win" thing, now it is spilling over into the basketball arena. Then we get news today that the Commissioner of the SEC has called both coaches and "cautioned" them. I say "give'em gloves, and put 'em in a ring." But nobody asked me.
Here I was, afraid that Kiffin was gonna become dull and boring after the piles of scorn heaped upon him by decent people around the SEC. I guess the lesson here is that that boy just cannot control his mouth! What really surprises me is Meyer's immaturity in verbally sparring with him. He should be more mature in my opinion. Let the kid talk, the SEC will take care of Kiffie-baby in good time.
Really, though. Why would Meyer make excuses? So his team did not play up to "their level?" Just remain silent (aside from laying any and all blame on yourself, everything rises and falls on leadership). Have some dignity. I don't care if every first-string player you have was prostrate with a fever and you lost the game. Men don't make excuses. Smart men don't boast. Wise men do not threaten. Meyer should have said he was proud of his team, congratulated Tennessee on a masterfully-played defensive game and then kept his mouth shut. He has only hurt himself. He has shown weakness. He has stooped to Kiffin's level.
But, for us Bama fans. It is a lot of fun. I hope our coach is smart enough, man enough and experienced enough to never resort to excuses. We will see.
