Arsenal Transfer News: Javier Hernandez Eyes Premier League, Top Gunners Rumours

Rory MarsdenDec 27, 2015

Arsenal are reportedly preparing a shock move for former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez as the Mexican star has hinted at wanting a move back to the Premier League.

Sources close to the player have reportedly indicated that he wants a chance to prove himself again in England despite the fact that he is currently in stunning form for Bayer Leverkusen.

According to Tony Stenson in the Daily Star, Gunners manager Arsene Wenger has been alerted to Hernandez's ambitions and could look to bring him in as cover for Olivier Giroud.

Hernandez moved to Bayer in the summer having lost the faith of United manager Louis van Gaal.

His career has been revitalised at the BayArena as he has found his scoring boots in emphatic fashion, an undoubtedly frustrating sight for all Red Devils fans considering their lack of goals this season, per football writer Nik Postinger:

It would add insult to injury for the United faithful if Hernandez was to move to Arsenal, but it could be a savvy move from Wenger.

The 27-year-old is proven in the Premier League and was prolific under Sir Alex Ferguson, reaching double figures for Premier League goals in each of his first three seasons from 2010 despite often playing as a substitute, per WhoScored.com

He would not only provide excellent cover for Giroud but could make a claim to be the Gunners' starting striker should he reproduce his Bundesliga form back in England.

Chicharito signed for Bayer on a three-year deal back in August for a reported fee of £8.75 million, per ESPN FC's Richard Jolly.

Arsenal could afford to stump up enough cash to persuade Bayer to part with Hernandez.

If Hernandez does indeed want to return to the English top flight then the Gunners could well add an excellent striker to their ranks and boost their attacking depth significantly.

Elsewhere, West Bromwich Albion have reportedly enquired about signing Gunners right-back Mathieu Debuchy on loan for the remainder of the season.

According to Steve Morgan in the Daily Star, the Frenchman could well be open to a move away as he is eager for game time ahead of Euro 2016 but has lost his place in the Arsenal first XI to Hector Bellerin.

The report added, though, that Arsenal may not be so keen to move Debuchy, 30, on to the Baggies as they have been unimpressed with the way Serge Gnabry has been managed in his spell at the Hawthorns.

Equally, with Arsenal's history of injuries, they would perhaps be best advised to keep Debuchy at the club as a more-than-capable back-up in the second half of the term.
