Army-Navy Game 2015: TV Schedule, Odds, Ticket Info and Predictions

Danny WebsterDec 11, 2015

There may not be a better spectacle in college football than the Army-Navy Game.

That statement would be agreed by everyone, except the Black Knights.

It's hard to actually call this game a rivalry, seeing how Navy has won 13 straight meetings between the two branches of the Armed Forces, and only three of those meetings were decided by one score. Navy has dominated this series since 2002, and that should be the case once again on Saturday with the Midshipmen opening as 23-point favorites against the Black Knights, per Odds Shark.

Prediction

Here's the short of this prediction: Navy should win. But will the Midshipmen cover?

The Black Knights are in the midst of their fifth straight losing season. They've only had one winning season since 1997. It's been almost 20 years of football that has been more than disappointing. Navy has been the program that's flourished, as the Midshipmen recorded their seventh winning season in the eight-year tenure of head coach Ken Niumatalolo.

And while Navy is going for its 14th win in a row, Midshipmen quarterback Keenan Reynolds is also looking for the four-year sweep of Army. Reynolds was considered a dark-horse Heisman finalist, rushing for 19 touchdowns and breaking the all-time rushing touchdown record earlier this year.

Reynolds has always had a rough time playing against the rivals from Army, though. Navy has won each matchup, but two of the three games Reynolds has played in have been a one-possession finish. Reynolds has also totaled only five rushing touchdowns in three games.

"Trying to contain him is difficult. Every coach, every defensive staff they face will tell you the same," Army coach Jeff Monken said, per David Ginsburg of the Associated Press (h/t the Military Times). "He has a great knack for finding the opening, finding the crease and then wiggling his way through there and getting a lot of extra yards. That's a unique talent in itself."

Navy giving up 22 points is not an ideal number, considering how close these two teams have played each other for as long as Reynolds has been the starting quarterback. Navy won 17-10 last year, and three years prior it took an eight-yard touchdown run by Reynolds with 4:41 to go in the fourth quarter to win, 17-13.

It's the one time of year where records are thrown out the window. Navy is far and away the better team, and it has been for many years. But prior instances have showed that this game won't be covered by the spread. Navy wins and records its first 10-win season since 2009.

Prediction: Navy 34, Army 20
