AT&T Winter National Championships 2015: Saturday USA Swimming Results, Reaction
The 2015 Winter National Championships concluded Saturday, ending the way they began: with Michael Phelps winning another national title.
Phelps took home the national title in the 200-meter butterfly, capturing his third championship of the weekend. Normally, a Phelps win would be the top headline, but that was not the case Saturday.
Lilly King broke a record in the women's 200-meter breaststroke with a final time of two minutes, 24.47 seconds, setting a new national best in the 17- to 18-year-old age group.
USA Swimming Live tweeted out the news:

It was a 15-year-old record that Amanda Beard had set back in 2000, and King entered the record books by almost a full second.
Lani Cabrera of SwimSwam.com analyzed King's record-breaking race:
"King started the race impressively and was able to maintain a strong pace throughout the race, resulting in her record breaking swim. She turned at her first 50m in a time of 33.18, and her split at the 100m mark was 1:09.84. Her 3rd and 4th 50m’s were 37.82 and 37.08 respectively, making her second 100m split 1:14.90.
"
If that was the strategy going in for King, she executed the plan well. The 33 seconds after the first 50 meters allowed her to pace herself throughout the final 150 meters. If she didn't have that great start to the race, the record would probably still stand.
As Phelps draws closer to participating in his final Olympics in 2016, he looks to be in top shape after winning his third championship of the weekend.
Phelps won his race by more than a second, with training partner Chase Kalisz finishing second. Phelps already looks to be in Olympic-ready mode heading into Rio de Janeiro, and his three wins in three days show he's ready for a strong showing.
