NCAA Football Rankings 2015: Week 15 Predictions Based on Latest Results

Mike NorrisDec 6, 2015

As Week 14 came to a close Saturday, it was apparent there wasn't going to be much movement in the Top 25 polls.

There were no major upsets, and the College Football Playoff selection committee should have an easy time figuring out its top four.

But in the meantime, let's take a look at the current Associated Press and Coaches Top 25 polls as well as projections for both as we head into Week 15:

A Look at the Top 10

The top four of these two polls should play out similarly to the CFP. The Clemson Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide aren't going anywhere from the top two spots after convincingly winning their respective conference championship games.

Spots three and four are a little trickier but should be the same here. Currently the Oklahoma Sooners sit at No. 3 in the AP. But the No. 5 Michigan State's win over the previously undefeated No. 4 Iowa Hawkeyes in the Big Ten Championship Game could push the Spartans up to No. 3.

Travis Haney of ESPN.com thinks that is exactly what will happen in the CFP:

Oklahoma was No. 4 in the Coaches Poll and should remain there as the Spartans will leap them.

The team on the outside looking in is the No. 7 Stanford Cardinal. They needed a win Saturday over No. 20 USC to move into the top four, and they got it with a strong performance from running back Christian McCaffrey, who finished with 461 all-purpose yards.

However, they also needed either Clemson or Alabama to lose, which did not happen. Now with an 11-2 record and Pac-12 Championship, they appear to be heading to the Rose Bowl, per Pac-12 ESPN reporter David Lombardi:

Their impressive win should push them to No. 5 and ahead of the idle Ohio State Buckeyes. Ohio State would move up one to No. 6. and Iowa will fall behind both teams in the polls based on its loss, but only to No. 7.

The final three spots in the Top 10 differ some on these two polls because of how they are currently ranked.

The TCU Horned Frogs should finish the regular season up one spot, at No. 10, after not playing in Week 14, and Notre Dame and Florida State, both idle as well, will stay at eighth and ninth in the AP Poll and ninth and eighth, respectively, in the Coaches Poll.

The North Carolina Tar Heels will be the only team to drop out of the Top 10 in both polls based on their loss to Clemson in the ACC title game. It's a tough pill to swallow considering many thought a spot in the top four was possible if they were to beat the Tigers.
