San Diego Chargers vs. Jacksonville Jaguars: What's the Game Plan for Jaguars?
The Jacksonville Jaguars (4-7) will take on the Tennessee Titans (2-9) in what will likely be the Jaguars' best chance at a win for the remainder of the season. While they can certainly win most of the games on the schedule, this appears to be the easiest one.
The Jaguars took down the Titans a little more than two weeks ago on Thursday night, making big plays to come from behind and earn a 19-13 victory. The game felt like a misrepresentation of the Jaguars abilities, but they caught momentum and pulled out a victory.
This Sunday, the Jaguars will instead be on the road in Nashville, Tennessee. The loss to the San Diego Chargers last weekend put a big damper on Jacksonville's playoffs hopes, but if they want to keep the possibility alive, they need to earn an important road win.

Momentum is a game changer, and it seems like the Jaguars could regain some by winning on the road as well as beating a divisional rival twice in one season. Putting together some pieces this weekend could provide a much-needed boost.
It's going to be a tough road ahead, but the Jaguars still have life and a reason to win each week. If this season wants to be, at the very least, a validation of improvement, it has to start with a win this weekend.
Offensive Game Plan
First and foremost, the Jaguars will likely look to properly execute a similar game plan to their previous matchup with Titans. While it only resulted in a single touchdown, the Jaguars were able to move the ball and find balance in their attack throughout the game.
Both the games against the Titans and Chargers saw poor red zone execution, as seen below. However, there's no doubt that quarterback Blake Bortles and Co. can move the ball. It's just a matter of finishing where it counts.
| Red Zone Trips | Touchdowns | Field Goals | No points | TD percentage | |
| Titans | 5 | 1 | 4 | 0 | 20 |
| Chargers | 4 | 1 | 3 | 0 | 25 |
| Total | 9 | 2 | 7 | 0 | 22 |
Expect to see rookie running back T.J. Yeldon get at least a few more reps and hopefully considerably more attention in the red zone. The back only had nine carries for 36 yards, and the Jaguars should look to get him more chances in general.
With the absence of wide receiver Allen Hurns, as reported by ESPN's Mike DiRocco, the Jaguars will need his fellow WRs to step up. Look for WR Allen Robinson to be the focus of a lot of targets, but WRs Bryan Walters, Rashad Greene and Marqise Lee will all look to step up in his absence.
Speaking of receiving options, tight end Julius Thomas may be in for another big day. He saw plenty of targets in the last game against the Titans, but if his 116 yards and touchdown against the Chargers were a sign of things come, he should be a focal point of the offense.
Defensive Game Plan
Titans QB Marcus Mariota didn't get the victory over the Jaguars, but he showed a lot of talent and promise in their Thursday night game. The Jaguars got their first real look at him, and he will be the top priority for the defense on Sunday.
He will be looking to get the ball to WRs Kendall Wright and Harry Douglas, but he will undoubtedly look at his top receiver on the season, TE Delanie Walker. Walker has had another great year, and the Jaguars got a taste of it when he brought down eight receptions for 109 yards a couple of weeks ago.
While pressuring Mariota and making him uncomfortable will be a key objective, finding a way to contain Walker is the most important job. Besides Davon House, the Jaguars don't have great corners. But I trust them to make plays rather than the linebackers or safeties that are put on Walker.
The secondary goal will be to stop a relatively average or below-par rushing attack. Titans RB Antonio Andrews has been very good at times this season, but the Jaguars run defense is still one of the best in the NFL and they should be able to contain him.
It won't be easy per say, but the Jaguars defense has the easier job, and they proved that the last time these teams met. If they can limit the Titans to 13 points again, then this game should be relatively easy for the offense to put away.
