SEC Championship 2015: TV Info, Odds and Predictions for Florida vs. Alabama

Mike ChiariDec 2, 2015

Alabama is one win away from qualifying for the College Football Playoff, but underdog Florida will look to play spoiler Saturday afternoon in the 2015 SEC Championship Game.

The Crimson Tide are heavily favored as expected; however, the Gators have enjoyed a strong season with just two losses to their credit, and they own a victory over the only team to beat Bama thus far in Ole Miss.

Florida has little to lose in the SEC Championship Game in comparison to Alabama, and with the Tide coming off a fairly close win over Auburn in the Iron Bowl, they could be somewhat vulnerable.

As Alabama looks to keep its national title hopes alive, here is everything you need to know about the 2015 SEC Championship Game, along with a prediction for which team will come out on top.

Where: Georgia Dome in Atlanta

When: Saturday, Dec. 5, at 4 p.m. ET

Watch: CBS

Betting Line (via Odds Shark): Alabama (-17)

Florida Player to Watch: Treon Harris

Sophomore quarterback Treon Harris has been Florida's starter ever since Will Grier was saddled with a suspension, and while he has enjoyed some positive moments, the Gators need him to be much better against an excellent Alabama defense.

Harris is completing under 54 percent of his passes and has just eight touchdowns as opposed to four interceptions. He is also coming off two of his worst performances of the season against Florida Atlantic and Florida State, respectively.

The Miami, Florida, native couldn't get anything going against the rival Seminoles in a 27-2 loss, as he completed just 50 percent of his passes for 134 yards.

According to Zach Abolverdi of the Gainesville Sun, head coach Jim McElwain believes he may have to simplify things for his young signal-caller:

At the same time, though, McElwain stressed the importance of Harris making plays when they are there for the taking, per Thomas Goldkamp of 247Sports.

"We've got to complete passes when guys are open and create some explosive plays and consistency," McElwain said.

Alabama's defensive line has a propensity for eating opposing quarterbacks alive, especially A'Shawn Robinson and Jarran Reed.

Harris is a small, slight player at 5'11" and 195 pounds, so he can't afford to get knocked around too often by Bama's behemoths. With that in mind, his mobility will be key in Saturday's clash.

If Harris can get outside the pocket and make some plays with his legs, then the Gators have a fighting chance. Otherwise, the Crimson Tide should be able to pressure him into making some poor decisions with the football, as he's prone to do.

Alabama Player to Watch: Derrick Henry

Junior running back Derrick Henry is undoubtedly the leading candidate to win the Heisman Trophy, and he has a golden opportunity to put a bow on top of his magical campaign in the SEC Championship Game against Florida.

Henry has been great all season long, but the Alabama back has been especially strong over the past month, as he has rushed for 200 or more yards in three of his past four outings.

The Yulee, Florida, native put the Alabama offense on his back against Auburn last week as he carried the ball a ridiculous 46 times for 271 yards and one touchdown. According to SEC Network, the dreadlocked bulldozer broke several records in the process:

While Henry has received many of the accolades for the Crimson Tide's success this season, head coach Nick Saban made sure to credit his supporting cast for making it all possible as well, per Marq Burnett of the Anniston Star:

Florida ranks seventh in the nation in rushing defense, as it is allowing just 111.3 yards per game on the ground and 3.3 yards per carry. That seems to suggest the Gators are as well-equipped as anyone to slow Henry down.

Henry's worst statistical game this season in which he played the entire contest came against Arkansas when he rushed for 95 yards and 27 carries for an average of just 3.5 yards per tote.

Alabama still won that game despite Henry being held in check, but the Gators must do everything in their power to follow the Razorbacks' blueprint.

Henry is likely going to get his yards, but if Florida can hold him closer to 100 yards than 200, it may be able to put itself in position to pull off the upset.

Prediction

Alabama has been a team on a mission since losing to Ole Miss in its third game of the season, although it has experienced its fair share of close calls along the way.

Wins over Arkansas, Tennessee and Auburn were fairly close, but the Crimson Tide found ways to make plays in important moments and come through with victories.

Saturday's game looks like a mismatch on paper, especially considering Harris' recent struggles, but one can only assume that the Gators will be pumped up for the game due to the stakes that hang in the balance.

Even though a win may not be enough to get Florida in the CFP, spoiling Alabama's season and robbing it of the right to play for a national title would be a massive accomplishment.

Florida's strong defense may be able to keep things close by limiting Henry's big runs and putting the clamps down on quarterback Jake Coker, but the Gators' biggest challenge will be mustering enough offense in their own right.

The Gators couldn't get anything going against FSU, so it is difficult to envision them doing much better against an even more dominant Alabama defense.

Look for things to be tight between Alabama and Florida through the first half, but as Henry continues to impose his will and wear down the Gators defense, the Crimson Tide will pull away with a convincing 31-10 victory to take the SEC title and advance to the College Football Playoff.
