Manchester United Transfer News: Latest Cristiano Ronaldo, Arjen Robben Rumours

Rob BlanchetteDec 1, 2015

Cristiano Ronaldo's mother, Dolores Aveiro, is said to prefer her son returns to Manchester United if he leaves Real Madrid rather than choose the riches on offer at Paris Saint-Germain.

David Anderson of the Mirror reported she has concerns over a possible move to the French capital after the recent terror attacks in Paris.

Anderson explained Aveiro's thinking behind the potential switch back to Old Trafford:

Paris Saint-Germain are also chasing Ronaldo and are prepared to pay him a staggering £250,000 a week after tax to make him Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s successor.

But Aveiro would prefer a move back to Manchester because she feels it would be safer for her son and five-year-old grandson, Cristiano Junior.

"

A reunion between the player and club is becoming more likely, with United seemingly open to the possibility of bringing back one of their favourite sons, per Anderson.

Ronaldo is now 30 but has continued his extraordinary goalscoring performances for Los Blancos.

The attacker has once again been shortlisted for the prestigious Ballon d'Or award, as reported by Richard Arrowsmith of MailOnline, as he attempts to win the trophy for the third campaign in a row. Ronaldo first won the Ballon d'Or while representing United in 2008, per the Telegraph, and he would have to consider whether he could maintain his status if he returns to the fallen giants.

United have pulled away from the recent misery of former coach David Moyes' tenure, which saw the club slip from champions to seventh in one season, and they have a much more stable platform for CR7 at present.

Simon Mullock of the Sunday Mirror said the Real Madrid icon is "excited by the prospect of once again wearing United’s red shirt" and that he could be sorely tempted to rejoin as he believes a move to PSG "will do nothing for his reputation."

Sky Sports Spanish football expert Guillem Balague said in his recent book Cristiano Ronaldo: The Biography he believes the player would love a move back to his former team: "Cristiano Ronaldo still dreams of returning to Manchester United. The English club informed his agent in 2013 that they have enough financial power to secure his return."

Bleacher Report's Dean Jones explained why Ronaldo is unlikely to end his playing career at the Bernabeu:

United boss Louis van Gaal admitted he would like to see Ronaldo return to the Red Devils but that he is also looking at a number of top transfer targets. Per Mullock, the Dutchman said:

"

Ronaldo plays on the wings, and he is fast and scores goals. There is no trainer in the world that doesn't like him. Of course we are looking—but are looking at all players, not just Ronaldo. But these players are mostly ungettable. With Ronaldo, let's wait and hope.

"

It has been speculated one of those targets is Bayern Munich's Arjen Robben, but the attacker has quashed rumours linking him with a January switch to United, as reported by the Daily Star's Chisanga Malata.

Robben is quoted as saying: "I never thought about a transfer [away from Bayern], I am happy in Munich; my family is happy in Munich. My contract runs until 2017. You can't look too far forward in football, but everything is fine at the moment - I hope things continue this way.”

Robben fits into the category of the type of player United crave, as their attack labours at home and abroad.

Van Gaal's men have played out four goalless draws in their last eight games in all competitions, according to WhoScored.com, and they have damaged their chances of progressing in the Champions League as a result.

It would be foolish to state Ronaldo would not be a fantastic signing for United, but there are deeper problems in the attack at present. CR7 is currently a No. 9, and he would not be afforded the service he needs to score goals at Old Trafford.

Van Gaal must bring in creative talents who can supply the front line, but the coach's rigid tactics have strangled the flair players at the club, making United a less desirable destination for the best players in the world.

Angel Di Maria's short time and failure in Manchester could act as a deterrent for CR7 as he makes the final big move of his illustrious career.
