Arsenal Transfer News: Edinson Cavani's PSG Discontent, Joel Campbell Rumours

Tom SunderlandNov 29, 2015

Arsenal have been put on alert following some strong words from Paris Saint-Germain boss Laurent Blanc regarding Edinson Cavani, while Gunners chief Arsene Wenger insists Joel Campbell has a future at the club.

Cavani was visibly frustrated after being substituted off in the 79th minute of Saturday's 4-1 win over Troyes, but PSG manager Blanc stated how difficult it can be to keep players content, per Sky Sports:

"Cavani wasn't very happy, I can confirm that. But they are never happy and I can understand that. If established players have no motivation, we will play young people. They will be happy to play, but I think the established players that I have are currently serious."

The Uruguay international enjoyed a rare start up front for Blanc's side, and rewarded Blanc by scoring the opening goal to display how clinical an asset he can be when utilised in his correct position.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic's contract at Parc des Princes comes to an end next summer, and although the sentiment was that Cavani would take his central role, Bleacher Report's Jonathan Johnson reported that may not be the case for all:

Arsenal are in desperate need of attacking recruitment after seeing injuries to Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck limit their options this season, with Alexis Sanchez joining the injured list in Saturday's 1-1 draw against Norwich City.

It leaves Olivier Giroud as the club's only recognised senior striker for the time being, and Arsenal Fan TV recently questioned whether the Gunners were right not to add to their attacking ranks this past summer:

A winter move for a player of Cavani's stature would be a mountainous deal to pull off, especially involving a cash-rich outfit such as PSG who are under no pressure to sell their South American striker.

Spanish website Fichajes reported earlier in November that Arsenal won't give up on Cavani, and these new reports of discontent may give the north Londoners a glimmer of hope as they chase a deal (h/t Metro's Jamie Sanderson).

Another player offering firepower to Wenger's front line is Costa Rica international Campbell, who has earned the praise of his manager following his most prominent first-team run of form to date.

When asked if Campbell would be involved in the selection conundrum when all of his players are back fit, per the Press Association (h/t ESPN FC), Wenger replied:

"

Of course, you're right. At the end of the day, you decide what's best for the team. Ramsey is coming back, of course, Alexis Sanchez being there, but it's good to move Ramsey inside during a game and give Campbell the opportunity as well.

This season I didn't want to give him out because he has a genuine team attitude and he's a fighter. What you want from him is to bring more offensively when he played and recently he has shown when he is confident he can produce the offensive quality as well being reliable on the team attitude.

He's a fighter so that's great for us. I smelt something with him that is very interesting. The other night he has a positive attitude, he was not only playing safe.

"

Speculation was growing as to whether Campbell could expect to keep his place at the Emirates Stadium, with Tancredi Palmeri of beIN Sports reporting Turkish giants Galatasaray were interested in his signature:

Campbell has been at Arsenal since 2011, but it wasn't until a series of breakthrough performances for Costa Rica at the 2014 World Cup that he earned support for more involvement at the club.

The forward recently scored his first senior goal for the club in a 3-0 win over Swansea City, and it appears Wenger has long-term plans for the 23-year-old as long as he maintains his fighting spirit.
