Twitter Reacts: Chelsea's Jose Mourinho Drops Diego Costa for 0-0 Draw vs. Spurs

Joe GallagherNov 29, 2015

Chelsea made the short trip across London on Sunday to tackle Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane.

The two sides have enjoyed distinctly different storylines this season, Chelsea's stuttering campaign making the headlines for all the wrong reasons while Spurs have quietly gone about their business and are undefeated in the league since the opening day of the season.

By Sunday lunchtime, Tottenham found themselves just five points from the Premier League summit.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has apparently given striker Diego Costa just a matter of weeks to prove his worth to the side, but the Spain international started from the bench as tensions grew between the Special One and the frontman.

In a sluggish first half, Mousa Dembele was a standout for the home side.

Not for the first time this term, Jose Mourinho became the centre of attention for a while.

Goalless at the break, Eden Hazard seemed to be relishing his role as Chelsea's false nine.

The same fortune wasn't afforded to out-of-sorts midfield team-mate Cesc Fabregas.

As both sides struggled to break the deadlock in the second half, there were more pressing matters to worry about:

Hazard injected some rare life into the match, nearly scoring the game's first goal after 68 minutes, but his volley was denied by the brilliance of Hugo Lloris.

That was about as close as either side would come.

Mourinho turned to his bench—but it was Ruben Loftus-Cheek rather than Costa who entered the fray as the clock wound down.

And 0-0 it stayed—enough for Tottenham to inch toward the Premier League's top four, while Chelsea provisionally moved above Swansea City into 14th.
