Liverpool Transfer News: Danny Ings Tribunal Record Reported Amid Spurs Rumours
Danny Ings could end up costing Liverpool a lot more than the Anfield club originally bargained for. It all depends on reported summer interest from Premier League rival Tottenham Hotspur in the former Burnley man.
Craig Hope of MailOnline states the Reds could be forced into paying a tribunal record of more than £10 million. That is if Ings' old club can prove Spurs showed interest before the England international opted for a move to Merseyside.
Ings' contract had expired with the Lancashire outfit, but age rules dictated Burnley were still entitled to a compensation fee. It's the exact fee that remains a sticking point, one Burnley will seek to resolve legally, using Spurs as a central part of their bid to prise more cash from the Anfield coffers, according to Hope:

"Should the matter go to tribunal, it is almost certain Burnley will use Spurs' pursuit of Ings as one of their key pieces of evidence in pushing the fee higher than the £6m Liverpool want to pay.
Crucially, the Premier League rulebook states that if interest from other clubs can be 'substantiated', then that will be taken into account.
It is thought that Spurs were willing to pay between £10m and £12m for Ings and that could prove decisive when the panel come to meet.
"
The Premier League, along with the Professional Football Compensation Committee, will hear the case. Significantly, Hope also reveals how the Reds would have no right of appeal should the PFCC rule they must pay more than the £6.5 million Chelsea paid Manchester City for now current Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge back in 2009.

Hope listed the factors involved in determining a ruling: "[The] age of the player, the length of time spent at the club he has left, the terms of new contracts offered to the player by both clubs, his playing record and interest shown by other clubs."
Indeed, Spurs were linked with an initial bid of up to £12 million back in May, as noted by Sky Sports. The north London club wanted to beat other suitors to the punch for the man who scored 11 times during Burnley's relegation-doomed Premier League campaign, per ESPN FC.
Ings has made just five Premier League appearances for Liverpool. He's scored three goals in domestic and League Cup action, according to WhoScored.com.
He's currently languishing on the treatment table as he bids to come back from a torn anterior cruciate ligament. It's a bitter blow for a young player who appeared on the rise, both at club and international level.
Liverpool had been counting on Ings to boost an inconsistent strike force too often hampered by Sturridge's own injury woes.

What has to be really galling for Ings is how well he'd fit new boss Jurgen Klopp's brand of high-energy, frenetic-press and attacking football. As a quick and crafty forward best suited to operating between the midfield and front lines, Ings has the qualities to thrive in a shape-shifting attacking contingent led by Brazilian pair Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino.
Now, though, Liverpool are facing the very real possibility of paying over the odds for a player they likely won't be able to use this season.
