Busch Undergoes Surgery

Thursday, Dec. 17

Alan Cavanna of Fox Sports provided details on Busch's procedure:

Busch On Road to Recovery After Multiple Injuries

Busch, 30, suffered multiple severe injuries in a Feb. 21 crash during an Xfinity Series race at Daytona. He was forced to miss the first 11 races of the Sprint Cup season and was only able to qualify for the Chase for the Sprint Cup after NASCAR officials amended the rule requiring drivers compete in every race.

He worked his way into the top 30 to qualify for the Chase and whittled his way into the final four before winning Sunday in Homestead-Miami Speedway.

As of right now, Busch says he'll be ready for the start of 2016 but will miss at least four weeks after the leg surgery.

"The leg, though, I'm going to be down for probably they said about four weeks with the leg," Busch said, per Rodgers. "Just having to re-go through the knee and to cut the knee open again in order to pull the rod out, that's going to be the most traumatic part and just having that have to heal and go back together and let the muscle get back together, and of course the tendon, as well, too."

Even if spending his offseason as champion will be spent rehabilitating, it's unlikely Busch would have it any other way. The No. 18 car should head into 2016 as a favorite, especially after Busch performed so brilliantly at less than 100 percent.
