Liverpool Transfer News: Jamie Carragher Expects Quiet Window, Lucas Biglia Eyed
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher expects Reds boss Jurgen Klopp to wait until the end of the season before spending big money in the transfer window, rather than splashing the cash in January.
Speaking to Vaishali Bhardwaj of the London Evening Standard, Carragher cited a lack of quality players available midseason as a reason for being patient when it comes to new acquisitions, but he also admitted the current group of players is not good enough to compete with the best teams in the country:
"Eventually, he will make big changes but I think in January it's always difficult to make those kinds of changes. Now and again you see signings coming in January who make a big difference - Luis Suarez was huge for Liverpool. Daniel Agger came in January too and he did really well, but it's not normally a time when you get the best players on offer.
I imagine the changes he [Klopp] will look to make and want to implement will come more in the summer. At present the team and the squad isn't quite good enough to be where everyone wants Liverpool to be and that's the whole point why you bring a new manager in.

While Klopp has helped lift what was a stagnant mood at Anfield with his persona, some frailties in the current playing staff were shown during the 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace in the Reds’ previous Premier League outing, illustrating the difficult job at hand.
A lot of money was spent in the summer by the German’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers, despite being offset by the sale of Raheem Sterling to Manchester City. But as noted by Taintless Red, the group of players at Anfield has an unbalanced set of attributes:
With those deficiencies likely to hamper Liverpool this season, rushing into the January window with loose purse strings is not a solution. As Carragher noted, aside from a few exceptions, it’s very difficult to conduct business during that period that will have major long-term benefits on the team. Therefore, it makes more sense to wait.
Per Jason Burt of the Daily Telegraph, Klopp has expressed his willingness to give all of the players in his current squad an opportunity, which should keep motivation levels high until the end of 2015-16. But when critical decisions need to be made in the summer, don’t expect the German to shirk any kind of responsibility.
Liverpool Looking at Lucas Biglia

According to Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Mark Brus of Metro), Liverpool are hoping to complete a deal for long-term Klopp target, Lucas Biglia.
It’s claimed that the former Borussia Dortmund boss has been an admirer of Lazio midfield enforcer for a while, and he could reportedly be available for a sum of £21 million. Here are the kind of qualities the Argentina international would bring to the Liverpool engine room:
Klopp could definitely do with some steel in this area of the pitch, with Lucas Leiva his only natural holding-midfield option. As OptaPaolo illustrate with these statistics, Biglia is a rounded presence at the core of the Biancocelesti side:
Despite his broad skill set, Biglia doesn’t seem like the right fit for Liverpool. Klopp will be hoping to build a young side who can progress under his tutelage over the next few seasons; Biglia turns 30 in January, meaning not only does he not fit the blueprint, but £21 million would not give the Reds much in terms of long-term value for their money.
Stylistically, the 29-year-old would be a fine purchase initially and if Lazio were willing to budge on their asking price, a deal would begin to look more favourable. But given just how vital Biglia is to the Serie A side, as their captain and driving force in midfield, it’d be a surprise if they were to let him leave for anything other than a massive amount of money.
