Saban Comments on Fitzpatrick's Playing Status
Wednesday, Nov. 18
“He’s day-to-day, and probably won’t get enough reps this week to play in this game,” head coach Nick Saban told reporters. “We’re hopeful that we’ll be able to get him back after this week. When you’re day-to-day, you gotta see how he responds, and that’s not something we can predict right now.”
Fitzpatrick's Absence Will Remove Versatile Defender from Alabama Defense
Fitzpatrick has emerged as one of the Tide’s more versatile defenders—and has done so as a freshman. Entering Week 11, he had two pick-sixes, two sacks and 33 tackles in nine games, including six starts.
He was a 5-star prospect who ranked fifth at his position, according to 247Sports, and has been the team's starting nickel corner.
The Crimson Tide defense ranks first in the conference and fourth among the FBS, allowing just 278 yards per game. Their pass defense ranks seventh in the SEC, but it hasn’t been subpar by any stretch.
No. 2 Alabama will lean on its defense to make a run at its second straight College Football Playoff berth. The Tide control their own destiny with just three games remaining. They play Charleston Southern and 5-5 Auburn to finish the regular season and can reach the SEC title game against No. 8 Florida with a win over the Tigers.
