Sports World Reacts to Paris Terrorist Attacks

Tragedy struck Paris on Friday night, when several terrorist attacks occurred throughout the French capital, per CNN's Steve Almasy, Pierre Meilhan and Jim Bittermann. Since then, athletes from around the world have chimed in to offer their support to those who were affected by the horrific events.

While facts are being gathered and the story is still developing, here's a look at how members of the sporting universe reacted in real time.

French soccer star Thierry Henry shared his thoughts on Twitter:

Lalo Dagach recorded video of French fans joining together to sing the country's national anthem as they exited Stade de France—the site of one of Friday's attacks: 

English footballer Luke Shaw quickly responded with prayers for the Parisians:

Soccer star Robert Lewandowski of Poland followed Shaw's lead:

Bleacher Report offered its sympathies via Instagram, writing, "Our thoughts go out to all those affected by the attacks in Paris."  

New Orleans Pelicans center and Frenchman Alexis Ajinca posted a picture of sneakers inscribed with a touching message prior to his team's game against the Toronto Raptors: 

Damien Inglis, who is from French Guiana, showed his support by wearing a T-shirt Saturday night:

On Sunday, Kevin Seraphin, who is also from French Guiana, showed support with his haircut prior to the New York Knicks' game against the Pelicans:

Ivorian footballer Didier Drogba of MLS' Montreal Impact and German star Marco Reus of Borussia Dortmund kept France in their thoughts:

Several prominent soccer organizations from around the world provided their prayers: 

The NHL's Washington Capitals kept Paris in their thoughts with a touching pregame gesture:

The Ottawa Senators honored the French by singing their national anthem before Saturday's game:

The New Jersey Devils also showed their support before Saturday's game, per Tom Gulitti of the Record:

Formula One drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg did the same with posts on Twitter:

Golden State Warriors point guard Shaun Livingston and the National Basketball Players Association offered their condolences:

Pacers center and France native Ian Mahinmi also released a statement on the tragedy, via Candace Buckner of the Indianapolis Star:

The Chicago Bulls took time to pay their respects as well, according to Bleacher Report's Sean Highkin:

On Saturday, Army's football team entered the field carrying the French flag, as shown by Joel Klatt of Fox Sports:

LSU also displayed a French flag before their game against Arkansas, per Matt Barbato of SEC Country:

World football legend David Beckham spoke about the tragedy:

Thomas Hautmann of Fox Sports noted former Germany player Gerald Asamoah paid tribute to the victims prior to his testimonial match in Gelsenkirchen. DerWesten provided footage of Asamoah entering the stadium waving the French flag:

Formula One driver Romain Grosjean wore French colors on his arm during FP3 and qualifying at Interlagos, per Nate Saunders of ESPN UK.

When asked if he had another tribute planned, Grosjean replied, "I think the best thing we can do is try to put the French flag on top of the podium. It's going to be hard but let's do a race, think about what happened and hope that peace comes back quickly," per Saunders.

The Los Angeles Clippers and Detroit Pistons had a moment of silence at the Staples Center prior to their game on Saturday to recognize the victims, per Keith Langlois of Pistons.com. The French national anthem was also played prior to the game, as shown by Rohit Ghosh of About.com:

The Philadelphia Flyers provided an image of Pierre-Edouard Bellemare's helmet, which has the French flag on it:

With England set to host France in a friendly match on Tuesday, Callum Davis of the Telegraph reported England fans are being urged to join French fans in singing the French national anthem before the match. 

As the situation in Paris continues to unfold, the scope of Friday's tragedy remains uncertain at this point in time.
