Monday Recap
Wolverhampton's Civic Hall in England had just the evening session to look forward to on Monday, and it wasn't until later on the slate things started heating up.
Rodriguez came into his clash against Taylor as the heavy underdog, but a defiant streak early on created some buzz the 21-year-old might be capable of keeping pace at 1-1 after two legs.
That hope quickly simmered, however, as "Little John" failed to follow up a series of big scores with the finishing to match, and The Power eventually eased his way to a 5-2 victory to close out his group stage.
The official PDC Twitter account attested to Rodriguez's checkout shortcoming being part of the reason behind his demise:
Another youngster, 23-year-old Brown, also showed what was perhaps a similar lack of experience against Wade, where his lack of a cool head in finishing territory allowed The Machine to clinch another 5-2 lead.
That wasn't to take anything away from Wade, of course, considering his average of more than 103 was nothing to be sniffed at, per Live Darts:
Van Barneveld sweated slightly in his Group E outing against Butler, where he shot out of the gates with a two-leg lead before being hauled back to three games apiece.
But Barney stood resolute to capture the final two legs back-to-back, and All Things Darts confirmed it's James Wade whom Van Barneveld will be facing in the final 16:
Anderson's place in the knockout stage might have already been sealed, but that didn't stop the Scot from coming out all guns blazing on Monday as he surged to a 5-1 win against Andy Boulton.
Boulton was level at one leg apiece, but Anderson opened his stride to claim four successive legs and complete a perfect group-stage record. Bet365 tipped The Flying Scotsman as an in-form star to watch out for at present:
At the other end of the close-call spectrum was Thornton's encounter against Jenkins, where The Thorn also took his record to three wins from three after squeezing past The Bull 5-4.
Jenkins could be especially disappointed with his performance after letting a 4-2 lead slip before losing each of his last two throws, and PDC Results illustrated the fine margins that separated the pair:
Earlier in the day, Mark Webster and Robbie Green defeated Michael van der Horst and Martin Phillips, respectively, to advance from Group F and Group H in the runner-up positions.
Geert de Vos' 5-0 hammering of Jonny Clayton saw him check out on double 12 with an average of 113.86, confirmed by the official PDC website as the second-highest in Grand Slam of Darts history.
