Christian Morris Retires After Sustaining Neck Injury vs. Texas A&M
Two weeks after suffering a neck injury against Texas A&M, Ole Miss sophomore offensive lineman Christian Morris announced Saturday that his career is over.
Morris sent out a series of tweets regarding his status, including this one about his playing future:
"Devastated. My career is done. All my hard work…
— Christian Morris (@CMo_7uno) November 7, 2015"
The Memphis, Tennessee, native then lamented the fact that the game he loves was taken away from him so abruptly:
"Future just was so bright with this game.
— Christian Morris (@CMo_7uno) November 7, 2015"
"Put too much in this game.
— Christian Morris (@CMo_7uno) November 7, 2015"
At the same time, Morris suggested that he expected it to happen to some degree:
"I just knew through all the struggles growing up that it was destined.
— Christian Morris (@CMo_7uno) November 7, 2015"
Morris collapsed after walking off the field just prior to halftime of the Rebels' clash with the Aggies on Oct. 24. According to David Collier of SECCountry.com, he was diagnosed with a spinal cord contusion, and no timetable was given for his return.
The 6'6", 313-pound offensive tackle was primarily utilized as a backup as well as a part of the Rebels' special teams unit.
Although the University of Mississippi has yet to make a statement regarding the exact severity of Morris' injury or his status moving forward, every indication is that the Rebels will be forced to move forward without him.
