4 Most Winnable Games Remaining on Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Schedule

Luke EasterlingOct 13, 2015

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers head into their bye week with positive momentum, coming off their first home win since 2013 and improving their record to 2-3 on the year.

Just five weeks into the 2015 season, the Bucs have already matched their win total from 2014 after beating the Jacksonville Jaguars in a 38-31 shootout last week. It marked the team's first home victory of the Lovie Smith era, bringing its overall record under the head coach to 4-17.

Looking ahead, the Bucs will have plenty of tough sledding through the rest of the schedule, but there's ample opportunity to put a few more in the win column this year. After a particularly scary six-game stretch in the middle of the year, Tampa Bay has several favorable matchups at the end of the schedule that should allow it to tack on a few victories before heading into the offseason.

Let's take a look at which remaining games give the Bucs the best chance to win.

Week 7 at Washington

1 of 4

Jay Gruden's bunch currently sits at 2-3 after a gut-wrenching overtime loss to the Atlanta Falcons last week, ending on a walk-off pick-six by Atlanta's Robert Alford.

Washington has alternated wins and losses each week this season, but it'll be facing a tough New York Jets team next week before facing the Bucs, who will be well-rested coming off their bye week.

The Robert Griffin III drama seems to be behind the team for the most part, but Kirk Cousins isn't exactly lighting the world on fire in his place, managing just five touchdown passes to six interceptions so far this year. The Bucs should be well-prepared as they hope to repeat their only dominant win from last season, when they beat Washington on the road 27-7.

Week 14 vs. New Orleans

2 of 4

The Bucs already surprised many by taking out the New Orleans Saints in Week 2 on the road, but Drew Brees and company have continued to struggle, which should give Tampa Bay fans hope that the team can repeat that victory at home in December.

Tampa Bay harassed Brees all game long in its 26-19 win, sacking him four times and forcing three takeaways. Jameis Winston avoided costly mistakes and led two impressive touchdown drives to close the first half and open the second half, while the defense held off the Saints' last-minute comeback attempt.

If Winston can go into the Superdome in his second NFL start and come away with a win, he should be more than capable of leading the Bucs to victory in the friendly confines of Raymond James Stadium with 10 more starts under his belt.

Week 16 vs. Chicago

3 of 4

One of many matchups that barely eluded the Bucs last season, the Chicago Bears beat Tampa Bay 21-13 at Solider Field, scoring all of their points in the third quarter.

This time around, the Bears are struggling even more at this point in the season, sitting at 2-3 but coming off a dramatic win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Injuries to key players such as quarterback Jay Cutler and receiver Alshon Jeffery have certainly held them back, but Cutler has cut down on his mistakes so far this year, throwing only three interceptions.

Tampa Bay gets the Bears in its own backyard this year, and though Chicago has bounced back well with two wins after opening the year with three straight defeats, it still has concerns all over the field. If the Bucs can force Cutler into his old ways of poor decision-making and control the matchup with a strong ground game, they could take this one easily.

Week 17 at Carolina

4 of 4

It may be difficult to believe this one considering the beatdown the Carolina Panthers handed Tampa Bay just two weeks ago at Raymond James Stadium, but the Bucs could indeed steal a win in their last regular-season game.

With Carolina still undefeated, it's a legitimate contender for the NFC South title, and Week 17 tends to be an opportunity for playoff-bound teams to rest their most important players to avoid any costly injuries.

Even though backup quarterback Derek Anderson beat the Bucs twice last year, this year's Tampa Bay team should be improved enough over last year's bunch to take advantage of the Panthers should they keep Cam Newton and some of their other impact players on the bench for this one.
