Liverpool Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Jurgen Klopp and Jordan Henderson

James DudkoSep 27, 2015

Liverpool's transfer policy would undergo a major change if Jurgen Klopp succeeded Brendan Rodgers as manager. Specifically, the one-time Borussia Dortmund boss would scrap the Anfield club's controversial transfer committee, according to Mail Online writer Joe Bernstein.

He also claims Klopp would only be swayed into a move to Merseyside if he is the No. 1 choice of every member of the club's hierarchy. Bernstein names three-time UEFA Champions League-winning manager Carlo Ancelotti as another strong candidate. He also cites unnamed factions on the Anfield board who remain faithful to Rodgers.

But it's Liverpool's transfer committee, specifically the abolition of it, that would be Klopp's main focus. Bernstein references how the Premier League club's truncated recruitment approach has occasionally hamstrung Rodgers since he took over in 2012:

Rodgers has not been able to dictate transfer policy during his time at Merseyside, having some players like Mario Balotelli pressed upon him and denied other targets like Swansea City and Wales international Ashley Williams because they were deemed too old and not glamorous enough.

"

Where you stand on this will depend on your view of Rodgers. His supporters will point to the transfer committee as evidence the Anfield hot seat is the proverbial poisoned chalice.

Rodgers could be on borrowed time in the Liverpool hot seat.

By contrast, Rodgers' detractors will suggest the beleaguered manager has still been allowed to recruit enough of his kind of players. An unbalanced squad currently bloated with an abundance of attacking midfielders indicates Rodgers hasn't always met resistance over his decisions in the market.

He recently claimed he's aware there are those who want him gone, but Rodgers remains defiant about his record, per Sky Sports: "In all competitions we have lost less games than Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal. We have lost two games, which is equivalent to Tottenham and Manchester United."

It's also true Klopp remains heavily linked with the Bayern Munich job. Bernstein's fellow Mail Online reporter Sami Mokbel recently claimed Klopp is waiting for current Munich chief Pep Guardiola to step aside.

Of course if he goes to Liverpool, Klopp's record of two Bundesliga titles and a Champions League final appearance with Dortmund merits him getting a free hand to overhaul Rodgers' squad.

Even if he doesn't, junking the transfer committee would be a good idea for a club stuck in flux.

Jordan Henderson Targeted by Paris Saint-Germain

One transfer Rodgers or any potential successor may be able to control is a mooted offer for Jordan Henderson from Paris Saint-Germain. As outlandish as it seems, the mega-rich Ligue 1 outfit has actually made enquiries regarding the England's man availability, according to Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb (h/t Daily Express writer Adam Skinner).

Henderson is apparently drawing interest from Europe's elite.

There isn't much to the report, save for PSG apparently having "opened a dialogue" about the possibility of forcing Liverpool to sell the club's new captain. On the face of it, this rumour lacks plenty in the credibility department.

For one thing, PSG already boasts an awesome midfield. Led by energetic all-rounder Blaise Matuidi, strength in the middle is no problem for the French club.

But in fairness to Henderson, the idea of him attracting an admiring glance or two from some of Europe's bigger clubs is not as laughable as it was once.

Henderson is one of the few real success stories of the Rodgers era. He's matured from a tireless runner into a useful creator. The former Sunderland man supplied 16 assists in the Premier League from 2013 to 2015, as noted by WhoScored.com.

He's added extra elements to his game. Just don't expect the new and improved Henderson to pitch up in the French capital anytime soon. PSG are strong enough without him, and the 25-year-old shouldn't want to take the money to park it on the bench.

The bigger issue at Anfield isn't Henderson's future. It's what happens to Rodgers. The answer to that could prompt changes in how Liverpool conducts its transfer business.
