Mike ChiariSep 26, 2015

Evan Murray, a senior quarterback at Warren Hills Regional High School in Warren County, New Jersey, died Sept. 25 after suffering an in-game injury.

According to Jim Deegan of NJ.com, Warren Hills finished the game despite Murray's injury and went on to lose 14-12 to Summit.

Murray was later revealed to have suffered a lacerated spleen, with "massive" internal bleeding leading to his death, per Greg Tufaro of MyCentralJersey.com on Monday.

"Dr. Ronald Suarez, the Morris County Medical Examiner, performed the autopsy on Murray," per Tufaro. "He determined that Murray’s spleen was abnormally enlarged, making it more susceptible to injury. Suarez said there was no evidence of head trauma or heart disease, which said Suarez classified the manner of death as accidental."

After the news broke, interim school Superintendent Gary Bowen expressed his grief, saying, "We're all very deeply saddened by the passing of Evan Murray."

Following Murray's death, there was no shortage of support from teammates and those within the community on social media, per Chris Ryan of NJ.com:

Warren Hills head coach Larry Dubiel also spoke about the type of person Murray was, adding, "We lost a fine kid."
