Canada vs. Iroquois 2015 World Lacrosse Championship Game Date and Start Time
The World Indoor Lacrosse Championship is in the process of finishing up its fourth-ever tournament. But there hasn't been much parity over the past 12 years.
For the fourth straight time at the WILC, Canada and the Iroquois Nationals will play for the title in 2015. In the three previous matchups, Canada has come away with the gold.
Canada vs. Iroquois Nationals
When: Sunday, Sept. 27
Time: 4 p.m. ET
Venue: Carrier Dome; Syracuse, New York
Canada is fresh off a 19-3 drubbing of Israel in the semifinals, as they possess the strongest offense of this tournament so far. Only once have they been held to under 18 goals, but the team to do that was the Iroquois in an 11-9 Canada win.
A high-powered offense like Canada needs a facilitator, and Shawn Evans has been just that. In five games, Evans has added 24 assists to his eight goals, and he's ranked ninth in the tournament in points.
He's been feeding the likes of Dhane Smith and Mark Matthews, who lead Canada with 12 and 14 goals, respectively.
Both are capable of taking on a defense all on their own. Committed Combine showed Matthews' ability to dissect a defense:
And while the offense has been impressive, the goaltending has been just as stellar. Giving significant playing time to two goalies, Brandon Miller and Matt Vinc are second and third among all goalies in save percentage at the WILC.
The Iroquois had the tougher test in the semifinals, taking on the three-time bronze medalist United States and beating them 17-10.
But they could find an advantage in their home crowd. Though it didn't do much during their first meeting, playing in a venue like the Carrier Dome filled with purple and gold could give them a spiritual lift. This is also the first-ever international sporting event being held on indigenous grounds.
It's been a family affair when it comes to getting the Iroquois to the final. The Thompson brothers, Miles and Lyle, have paced the Iroquois when it comes to scoring. They know how to move the ball, too, as In Lacrosse We Trust's Brian McLoughlin displayed:
Lyle has recorded 15 goals and 13 assists in five games, while Miles has 12 and 14. Both rank in the top 20 for point-getters during the tournament.
Expect plenty of goals and clinical play on Sunday, as two of the best nations in the business will square off yet again for the world title of indoor lacrosse.
