World Indoor Lacrosse Championship 2015 Results: Friday Scores and Reaction

Joe PantornoSep 25, 2015

The 2015 World Indoor Lacrosse Championship is nearing its conclusion, as it was semifinal Friday in the host Onondaga Nation in upstate New York.

With all three medalists from every prior tournament playing once again in the semifinals, the United States got another chance to overcome the Iroquois for a spot in the final while Canada looks for its fourth consecutive title.

Let's take a look at all of the action from Friday's semifinals:

Canada 19, Israel 3

What was expected to be a lopsided semifinal matchup lived up to its billing Friday as Canada rolled over Israel, clinching its spot in a fourth straight championship game:

While it looked like Canada's offense did all the heavy lifting, its defense shut down Israel, holding it scoreless for the better part of 37 minutes.

Holding a 5-2 lead 10 minutes into the second quarter, Canada scored 14 unanswered goals to put the challengers away. Israel still managed 57 shots, but only 33 of them were on target.

While Israel struggled to find the back of the cage, Canada was unstoppable. Launching 78 shots, Canada found nine different goal scorers Friday night. Zachary Greer and Mark Matthews led the scoring, though, with four goals apiece in the rout. Greer also led all players with 15 shots on goal.

Flying high into the final, the Canadian offense has been held to under 18 goals only once in the tournament, and that was against the Iroquois in the first game. With a balanced and overwhelming offense, the defending champions look poised to win another Sunday.

Iroquois 17, United States 10

The later semifinal ensured that there would be a rematch of the past three WILC's as the Iroquois took down the United States 17-10 on Friday.

It seemed like the United States might be able to break the streak, jumping out to a quick 2-0 lead just three minutes into the game to grab some momentum. Instead, they woke up the opposition as the Iroquois embarked on an 8-0 scoring run to put the USA in a hole.

Again, the Iroquois were paced by the Thompson brothers as both Lyle and Miles recorded hat-tricks. Randy Staats joined in on the scoring party with three of his own.

Miles, who is known as more of a scorer and less as a distributor also added five assists on the night. Only Johnny Powless had more with six on Friday.

For the United States, it will be a fourth-straight tournament where they'll be competing for the bronze medal, taking on Israel on Sunday. Joe Walters led all scorers on the day with four, but his output was not nearly enough for the United States.
