Daily Fantasy Golf 2015: TOUR Championship Sleeper Picks

Steve SilvermanSep 23, 2015

You are absolutely right.

There's no such thing as a sleeper in a 30-player tournament that will determine the FedEx Cup champion.

The 30 players in the field have earned their way into the TOUR Championship in Atlanta based on their stellar play this season.

If you are the 31st-ranked player in the FedEx Cup standings, you can go to the TOUR Championship, but only as a spectator.

But for our fantasy purposes, there are still sleepers. When you compete in DraftKings fantasy golf games, you have a $50,000 budget and you can't just take Jason Day, Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth. You have to balance your roster with good players and sleepers who just might emerge at the East Lake Golf Course in Atlanta.

You probably have decided to go with Day, Spieth, McIlroy, Henrik Stenson or Rickie Fowler, but you may not be sure about the names in the final two or three spots on your roster.

That's why we are here to help you separate the contenders from the pretenders. For the purpose of finding TOUR Championship sleepers, all five of our selections have salaries of $8,000 or less.

Kevin Na70.265.5$7,100
Paul Casey69.866.5$7,500
Hideki Matsuyama69.877.2$8,000
Kevin Kisner7062.2$7,200
Bill Haas70.562.9$7,300

Kevin Na, $7,100

Kevin Na may not win the TOUR Championship. He comes into the last of the FedEx playoffs ranked 27th of the 30 competitors.

But Na has a very good chance to stay close and make a big move for your fantasy team. Na has one second-place finish and has been in the top 10 seven times. Na has made the cut in 22 of the 26 tournaments he entered this season, and he has earned more than $2.6 million.

Na is one of the best shot-makers on the tour. He ranks 29th in strokes gained tee to green, and he is also one of the best bunker players on the tour. Na ranks third in sand saves, and that could help him go a long way in this tournament.

Paul Casey, $7,500

Paul Casey of Cheltenham, England has had a sensational year on the tour, earning nearly $3.2 million this year while making the cut in 19 of the 23 tournaments he played.

Casey has two second-place finishes, two third-place finishes and has been in the top 10 seven times. There's a hunger to Casey's game, and it played out in the Wyndham Championship last month when he fired three straight rounds of 66 to start the tournament and a 67 in the final round.

Casey's game has been razor-sharp for the majority of the season. He finds the green in regulation 72.65 percent of the time, and that ranks fourth on the tour. He also ranks fifth in ball striking, and that means he can come up with the clutch shot when he needs it most.

Hideki Matsuyama, $8,000

Hideki Matsuyama has proven to be the top Japanese import on the tour, and the 23-year-old is a sensational competitor with a strong, well-rounded game.

Matsuyama made the cut in 18 of 24 tournaments this season and he finished in the top 10 nine times. Matsuyama has earned more than $3.5 million this year, and he has proved he can stay close in nearly any tournament into which he has entered.

Matsuyama ranks sixth in strokes gained tee to green, and he also ranks sixth in holes per eagle. If there's a problem area to his game, it's Matsuyama's ability to play out of the bunker. He ranks 112th in sand saves, so he needs to stay out of bunker trouble if he is going to stay close here.

Kevin Kisner, $7,200

The 31-year-old from Aiken, South Carolina has had a wonderful season, finishing second three times and earning more than $3.4 million. Kevin Kisner has proven to be a consistent competitor, finishing in the top 10 six times.

Kisner is not a huge hitter, as he averages 288.5 yards off the tee and that ranks 109th on the tour. Kisner makes up for that deficiency by playing a consistent overall game that has allowed him to average 70.193 per round, which ranks 23rd on the tour.

Kisner has been underrated all season, but he has the game to give the best players on the tour a run for the championship here. If he doesn't win, don't be surprised to see him finish in the top 10.
