Air Force Marathon 2015 Results: Men's and Women's Top Finishers
On the last official weekend of summer, the 18th annual Air Force Marathon was held at historic Wright Patterson Air Force Base, the home of the National Museum of the United States Air Force. This is not a Gold level race and the field is less than elite, but it is a qualifying race for the Boston Marathon.
Beyond that, it is an important sports weekend in the Dayton area. According to the Dayton Business Journal, it pumps $15 million into the area economy each year.
As an event to celebrate the history and culture of the Air Force, it is a unique athletic contest. Naturally, the race's twitter feed featured a dramatic fly over to kick-start the festivities:
In the actual race, Jason Brosseau of Colorado Springs, Colorado edged Matthew Farkas of Indianapolis by just over a second, 2:46:01 to 2:57:04. That works out to a race pace of just 6:21 per mile for the winner and 6:23 for the runner up.
The race's twitter had this shot of some brass greeting Brousseau at the end of his victorious run:
In these sort of marathon recaps, I always encourage the more casual gym going who is reading to set their treadmill at a sub 6:30 for just 20 or 30 seconds to see how it feels.
Third place went to Trevor Schmidt of Blacksburg, Virginia at 2.52.22. The top over-40 finisher was Chuck Engles of Alexandria, Virginia, who took fourth overall with a time of 2.53.13.
