John Hunter Nemechek won the Camping World Truck Series' American Ethanol E15 225 at Chicagoland Speedway, Illinois, on Saturday. He benefited from fuel issues that impacted a large percentage of the field to pick up his first career victory.
The final caution of the day came just outside of the projected fuel window. Since there weren't any more laps under yellow to preserve fuel, teams had to either come down pit road for more or take a chance on making it. It led to a highly chaotic, entertaining finish.

And here are how the updated standings shape up with seven events to go:
The race was originally scheduled for Friday night before heavy rain forced series officials to postpone the start until Saturday morning.
Pole-sitter Kyle Larson eagerly awaited the opportunity to get back in the truck. The Sprint Cup Series driver has always enjoyed the Joliet track and discussed beforehand feeling good about his chances of contending, as noted by Amanda Vincent of Examiner.com:
"Chicago is one of my favorite race tracks and the trucks are fun, close racing. I've been close to winning a few truck races, but I've only won one. JRM's truck program has been really fast this year. They've won some races, and they're competitive every race, and I'm looking forward to having a good shot of winning for them.
"
Once the green flag finally waved, the race got off to a herky-jerky start. Several drivers, including Daniel Hemric and Jesse Little, battled early problems with their trucks. Fox Sports NASCAR highlighted the No. 14 machine heading for the garage:
A competition yellow after the 30th lap ended up having a much bigger impact than expected. NASCAR handed out multiple penalties for violations on pit road to shake up the running order:
Once the dust settled, Tyler Reddick and Johnny Sauter sat on the front row for the restart.
Sauter won the ensuing battle for the lead and eventually opened the gap to more than two seconds over Reddick, Timothy Peters and the rest of the chase pack.
Only a caution on the 82nd lap brought the field back together. It happened in spectacular fashion, too. Mason Mingus lost control as he headed for the pits and caused quite a mess on the infield, as Fox Sports NASCAR showcased:
Zack Albert of NASCAR Digital Media joked about how the truck had a perfect sponsor:
Peters moved into the top spot after an extended caution to clean up the track.
A three-way battle ensued atop the leaderboard between Peters, Sauter and Larson, who made up steady ground after the early penalties to get back in contention.
The real drama started with around 20 laps to go when teams started making the decision to come down pit road fearing they were short on fuel. Peters, Sauter and points leader Erik Jones were among the large throng of drivers who stopped.
Larson stayed out and hoped for the best. The plan didn't work out, however, as he ran out of fuel about a half-lap away from the white flag.
That allowed John Hunter Nemechek to take the lead and coast to the finish line for his first win and third consecutive top-10 finish.
NASCAR Trucks spotlighted the celebration:
Dale Earnhardt Jr. congratulated the 18-year-old driver on his victory:
Kevin Harvick did the same:
Looking ahead, Larson should benefit from the race despite being unable to capitalize on starting from the pole. He got to experience the track from basically every position and can carry that knowledge into Sunday's Sprint Cup race.
The race also represents a tremendous boost for Nemechek. The rising star has been trending in the right direction in recent races, and thanks to good tactics and a little luck, he now understands the feeling of entering Victory Lane. That should help his confidence for the rest of the campaign.
The Camping World Truck Series returns to action next Saturday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway for the UNOH 175.
