WWE's Best and Worst Booking Decisions for the Week of September 13
With only days until Night of Champions hit the WWE Network airwaves and pay-per-view providers across the country, WWE Creative put the final touches on the build to the annual September extravaganza to varying degrees of success.
Or lack thereof, in some cases.
The best booking decisions of the week were ones that saw champions spotlighted ahead of their monumental defenses this Sunday night. Seth Rollins and Nikki Bella were the centerpieces of said decisions, their use doing a great deal to strengthen their reigns while simultaneously putting heat on their respective feuds leading into this weekend's broadcast.

Contrarily, the worst decision to come out of the Creative office revolved around the nonsensical use of immensely talented wrestlers and compelling characters.
Taking into consideration the effect the decisions will have on the performers and the product as a whole going forward, these are the best and worst booking choices of the last week.
Best: Nikki Bella Retains
Twin Magic has been a key element of The Bella Twins' act from the beginning, so it was fitting that Nikki broke the record for the longest reign as Divas champion by relying on her sister Brie. Ironically, it was Mrs. Daniel Bryan who was instrumental in Nikki capturing the title way back at the 2014 Survivor Series.
Many were upset, angered even, by the finish of Raw's match between Nikki and No. 1 contender Charlotte, but what it did was put a tremendous amount of heat on the feud and, more specifically, finally solidified the champion as the top villain in the division.
Now, when she arrives in Houston for Sunday's Night of Champions pay-per-view, her name in the history books, Nikki will be the object of the fans' disdain, and the match will benefit from it. It will be an incredibly hot atmosphere, with the most passionate of fans wanting the "Genetically Superior" Charlotte to knock the arrogant, entitled, elitist champion off of her pedestal.
Any time the company can accomplish such a feat in regard to a Divas match or rivalry, it deserves props, regardless of one's thoughts on Nikki or her extracurricular relationships.
Worst: Big Show Knocks out Cesaro
The stalling of yet another Cesaro push continued on SmackDown, as The Swiss Superman found himself on the losing end of a match against the chronically overexposed Big Show, whom the WWE Universe met with complete lethargy.
That fact did not stop WWE Creative from deciding to have the popular, highly talented Cesaro drop a match to The World's Largest Athlete, who is being heated up on television in preparation for an October showdown with Brock Lesnar inside Madison Square Garden.
Why writers continually sacrifice Cesaro, who is as over as he has ever been as a singles competitor, is a mystery only they know the answer to. Why he is sacrificed to put over an aging vet whose best days are far behind him is a mystery unsolvable by even the most ardent of wrestling fans.
Best: Not Overexposing Seth Rollins
A week ago, the WWE world heavyweight and United States champion had his lengthy in-ring promo interrupted by chants of "boring," something no main event star ever wants to find themselves on the receiving end of. That response can be contributed to the overexposure of the character more than anything.
How many times can fans be expected to sit back and listen to the same promo week in and week out, without any real changes to the motivations of the character?
Rollins' act has gone stale because he has been the centerpiece of so many shows, be it Raw or SmackDown, for so long the fans have tired of his shtick. What was the best way to prevent those boring chants from hurting the perception of him this week?
Lessen how much he appeared on television.
The company did just that, limiting his appearances on Raw to the main event segment. On SmackDown, his differences with Money in the Bank winner Sheamus took precedence, providing fans with a relatively fresh and compelling rivalry rather than the same repetitive schlock.
It worked, and Rollins now enters Night of Champions a marked man, not only forced to defend his titles against Sting and John Cena but also to watch over his shoulder for a potential cash-in from The Celtic Warrior.
Worst: The Wyatt Family on Miz TV
Who actually sat in the WWE Creative meeting and made the pitch for The Wyatt Family to appear on a powder-puff talk show segment like Miz TV? Really. Who decided, after two years of working with the characters involved, that they would readily jump at the opportunity to join The Miz in the ring for a promo with a snazzy in-ring setup?
From the start, the existence of the segment was a mistake. Add to that the fact that Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose demonstrated their hatred for Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper and Braun Strowman by coming to the ring and...talking to them...and you have a disastrous segment that made no sense whatsoever given the context of the story leading into it.
Stupid, nonsensical and a complete departure from what has been an otherwise intense program, this segment may very well have been the worst of the week.
Best: Iron Man Match for the NXT Women's Championship Announcement
Bayley vs. Sasha Banks from TakeOver: Brooklyn was one of the best women's matches ever delivered by World Wrestling Entertainment. On October 7, they will have the opportunity to improve on that match and make history as competitors in the first female Iron Man match in company history.
With 30 minutes to wage war and forever change perceptions of what two skilled and motivated women are capable of doing when given the opportunity, Bayley and Banks should create magic that will live forever in the annals of WWE and NXT.
Easily the most important women's match of the last 20 years, the contest will headline the next TakeOver special, giving fans their first opportunity to see two women main event a major event in Vince McMahon's sports entertainment empire.
