Florida State vs. Boston College: Game Grades, Analysis for the Seminoles
In what turned into another slugfest between defenses, Florida State molded a road shutout of Boston College with a 14-0 victory over the Eagles in New England on Friday evening. As the game looked like it would come down to the wire, Seminole defensive star Jalen Ramsey scooped and scored on a rare Eagles fumble to seal the game down the stretch.
Following the victory, Florida State improves to a perfect 3-0 (1-0 ACC), with its sights set on further defense of its conference title. However, Boston College (2-1, 0-1 ACC) hopes to get back to winning ways as it takes on Northern Illinois, Duke and Wake Forest over the coming weeks.
| First Half | Second Half | |
| Pass Offense | B+ | C |
| Rush Offense | C+ | D |
| Pass Defense | A+ | A- |
| Rush Defense | B- | A |
| Special Teams | B- | B+ |
| Coaching | C+ | C+ |
Pass Offense: B+/C After a somewhat productive first half passing the ball, including a strong 5-of-5 start for QB Everett Golson, the Seminoles were unable to get much going through the air during the second. However, the transfer QB did put together the sole offensive score of the game and compiled a respectable 119 yards total, earning himself a relatively middle-of-the-road grade.

Rush Offense: C+/D The first and second halves weren't much different for the Seminole rushing attack, as stud RB Dalvin Cook struggled throughout both. After putting together 50 yards with no scores in the first, though, Cook suffered through a four-yard second, and much of the game saw FSU failing to create space on the ground.
Pass Defense: A+/A- Even though Boston College wasn't exactly a passing team from the start, the Seminoles were able to quell any opportunities the Eagles tried to create. The first half yielded just 12 yards on two completions, not to mention an interception. The second was slightly less constricting, but equally tough in terms of allowing Boston College to move the ball.
Rush Defense: B-/A Despite giving up 80 yards in the first and another 59 in the second, Florida State was able to contain the potent Eagle rushing attack. Further, when Boston College seemed to finally get rolling midway through the fourth quarter, a crucial fumble-turned-touchdown cut off any hope for a comeback.

Special Teams: B-/B+ The special teams for the Seminoles were relatively quiet throughout the night, outside of a missed field goal in the first half. The constant punting throughout the game was only accentuated by the fact that both squads were doing it so well, and FSU pinned Boston College as well as any specials teams could during the matchup.
Coaching: C+/C+ The slugfest throughout proved Boston College was better than most pundits expected, but this Florida State squad showed it was relatively unprepared to visit hostile environments and bring home victories. Good defense and a lucky break here and there helped the Seminoles pull through, but ultimately, better teams will be in position to end Florida State's regular-season winning streak. And essentially, that unpreparedness boils down to coaching.
