Ladarius Green Injury: Updates on Chargers TE's Concussion and Return

Mike ChiariSep 23, 2015

San Diego Chargers tight end Ladarius Green suffered a concussion in Week 2 and was inactive for Week 3, but he is active for Week 4, per Ricky Henne of Chargers.com.

While the veteran Antonio Gates will remain San Diego's tight end of the present once he returns, Green has begun to establish himself in a big way and created some major matchup problems for opposing defenses.

Green was a fourth-round pick in 2012 out of Louisiana-Lafayette, and he started to show flashes of brilliance in 2013 as he averaged over 22.1 yards per catch on 17 receptions and scored three touchdowns. He also scored a playoff touchdown for the Chargers that season.

Expectations were pretty high entering 2014, but his production regressed as he accrued just 226 receiving yards and did not find paydirt.

There was pressure on Green to turn things around in 2015 with Gates suspended for the first four games of the regular season, but there was also some concern ahead of the opener since he suffered a concussion during practice.

Green managed to play and perform well in Week 1, though, as he went for 74 yards and a touchdown. After that, quarterback Philip Rivers likely gained a great deal of confidence in his big target.

With Gates set to return after two more games, the Bolts should be all right at the tight end position in the long term.

San Diego is at its best when it can throw several big-play guys on the field, though, which is why getting Green back will play huge dividends.
